Are you an experienced AV technician searching for your next role in the arts?

The National Gallery has a great opportunity for an Audio Visual Technician. You will be a part of the Audio Visual team which sits in the Digital Innovation and Technology directorate, supporting the activities of all National Gallery departments for public-facing Digital and AV output, commercial venue hire clients and internal staff events.

The successful candidate will facilitate and support the provision of a diverse range of free and paid-for digitally-delivered events and content both online and onsite in gallery and NGX, our virtual production video studio.

The ideal candidate is required to have a broad range of experience to support these activities efficiently and confidently, from delivering the technical set-up and testing, basic training provision and maintenance of video and audio content in gallery and from NGX, for our digital channels, exhibitions and displays.

 

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Level 4 Qualification (HNC) or above in a relevant subject, e.g. Audio Visual, Creative Media Production, etc.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of visual display systems such as:
    • LCD panels and projectors, essential cabling and distribution, signal path (HDbaseT, AVoIP, Dante, etc), vision mixers and scalers and more. The full list can be found in the job pack.
  • Working knowledge of virtual production systems with camera tracking beneficial. 
  • Proficient across PC and Mac OS platforms, using office and presentations software with the ability to troubleshoot.
  • Experience of working in an event AV environment.
  • Ability to explain complex AV terms to a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Awareness of logistical and practical issues of working in a gallery or museum.
  • Collaboratively working as part of a team.
  • Effective multitasker - the ability to move efficiently from one task to another.
  • Capable of managing and prioritising workloads effectively.
  • Proactive problem-solver.
  • Work effectively in a time pressured situation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other staff and clients from all levels.

 

Additional information

This a full-time role (35-hours per week). The post holder can be required to work flexibly to cover evening and weekend events, with a typical working pattern of 5 days out of 7 as required. Therefore, this role requires ability to work irregular hours that cover early, late, and some weekend events as the planned schedule requires.

Setting up and installing AV equipment can involve the lifting of heavy items and working at height, using access towers or powered access lifts.
