We are BLOK, one of the UK's leading boutique fitness operators. BLOK is an award winning independent fitness studio, offering cross discipline classes for all levels. We opened our first site in Clapton in 2016, expanded it in 2017, opened our Shoreditch site in 2018, BLOK Manchester in 2019 and launched BLOKtv, our online digital offering, in 2020. We are on an exciting growth journey to be a leading provider of hybrid fitness and looking to expand our team.

What we are looking for

A dynamic and entrepreneurial financial leader to support the CEO as he leads the business from startup to scaleup. The company is in the midst of a huge shift to become a growth driven tech lead organisation, and the successful candidate will be pivotal in cementing this transformation and instilling a metric driven growth mindset throughout the business.

The chief financial officer (CFO) will be pivotal in the upcoming series A round, bringing knowledge, connections and experience of fundraising at this level.

As a member of our senior leadership team, they will be comfortable in a leadership role that demands clear communication and presentation skills both internally and externally with potential investors and advisory firms. Embody a collegiate approach with colleagues to pursuing company objectives, sharing ownership for success and failure, and being a catalyst for positive change.


Key responsibilities

  • Lead on the strategic initiatives to drive increased business value including building commercial driver focused investor model, supporting the narrative of the pitch deck and relevant metrics to support the valuation, supporting the delivery of the pitch and managing the cap table
  • You will be responsible, either directly or by managing their team, for all cash flow forecasting and management, investments, budgeting, and financial reporting, helping to drive the company’s financial strategy and hiring needs
  • Coordinate the development of the annual operating, capital, and program budgets, and reporting against the same
  • Ensure cash flow is compatible with company operations, by overseeing the strategic accounting, recording, reporting, and internal control activities of the organisation
  • Lead the development and use of best-practice financial policies, practices, and tools that ensure a well-controlled yet flexible organisation with strong fiscal management, project management, cross team communications and workflow
  • Comply with regulatory financial requirements
  • Perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage capital structure and fundraising initiatives
  • Work with the senior management to efficiently develop proposal budgets, provide access to project finance information, and manage contract/grant compliance and reporting
  • Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyse internal operations, identify areas of cost reduction and process enhancement
  • Monitor performance with tracking, establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports, both current and forecasting for earnings calls, the management team, and the rest of the company
  • Manage finance team members and oversee financial IT systems, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations


Knowledge, skills, experience

  • Experience supporting a business from startup to scaleup including Series A rounds
  • Knowledge, experience and connections of fundraising at this level
  • Appropriately qualified at CFO level including professional qualification in finance (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • A metric driven growth mindset
  • Experience in executive leadership positions
  • Proven leadership skills and high degree of personal integrity
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
  • Experience building a team of financial professionals or working with outsourced providers.
  • Strong technical understanding of FRS102, regulatory issues and corporate tax planning
  • Executive experience working within a technology business model and its associated revenue recognition, management information, cost/revenue/margin optimisation etc.
  • Corporate finance and capital raising experience, handling due diligence, data rooms and negotiating term sheets
  • National expansion experience and the financial management of distributed teams
