If you are looking for an opportunity to gain work experience and a qualification, then an apprenticeship at Channel 4 might be for you. These apprenticeships are aimed at school leavers and people who do not have a degree (full eligibility criteria below).

Our Apprenticeships are full-time, with four days per week spent working in a C4 department and one day per week completing the formal learning parts of the apprenticeship. You’ll spend 60% of your working week in your office base and 40% working from home. The formal training provided will consist of workshops, tutorials, webinars, coaching and in some cases residential boot camps. Channel 4 has become a major destination for youth audiences on social reaching over half of 18–34-year-olds every month. We’ve developed a team of specialists who understand youth culture and can help our agencies and brands deliver award winning campaigns.

This apprenticeship role will have the opportunity to work within two departments: the Ecommerce team, and the Social Branded Entertainment team, both of which are part of the wider Commercial Innovation team.

The Social Branded Entertainment team are Channel 4’s BAFTA Award Winning content division. They work to reach and engage young viewers across the UK on all of Channel 4 touch points, with a core focus on social. They offer brands and agencies a new opportunity in market to work with Channel 4 to complement TV and VOD campaigns, as well as social only campaigns. Channel 4 isn’t new to social, however as part of our strategy social is now a key part of how we partner with advertisers.

The Ecommerce team aim to make existing content shoppable via a number of different initiatives, create bespoke made-for-shopping content, and offer brands new advertising solutions delivering them return on their investment by delivering product sales as well as brand awareness. The Commercial Innovation (CI) team within which these 2 departments sit was established in 2023 with the specific objective to develop new revenue streams and build upon existing innovations. This team are responsible for all the new commercial initiatives & output of Channel 4 Sales, including our plans to dial up streaming and scale social.

We are looking to expand the CI team with this apprenticeship role giving the successful candidate experience in sales, project management, how content is created, social media, working with brands, TV advertising and wider ecommerce initiatives.


You will be required to support both the Social Branded Entertainment and Ecommerce team in several ways.

It is likely that you will do one or two blocks in each team to enable you to become accomplished in each area before moving on to the next, although the best approach will be determined nearer the start date.

There are common responsibilities across both the Social Branded Entertainment and Ecommerce functions. The Ecommerce team is newer, and we are still scoping out our strategy which means responsibilities may evolve over time.

  • Provide vital support to both sales teams
  • Ensure existing campaigns are being managed and delivered
  • Contribute towards their team’s revenue and creative output
  • Attend ideation sessions for brief responses
  • Work with the strategy team on insights and audience segmentation 
  • Post-sale process includes status meetings, campaign booking, supporting with internal, production company and client kick off meetings 
  • Keep up with industry/market knowledge to help inform the ongoing sales strategy
  • Provide administrative support while campaigns are in production to ensure all stakeholders are up to date on status
  • Work with Social Media team to ensure campaigns go live as planned and take relevant screenshots for Post Campaign Analysis
  • Signing up new retailers and brands to the ecommerce affiliate network
  • Reviewing all data received by C4 from the affiliate network on clicks and sales and helping to propose new strategies to increase revenue to C4
  • Support team with relevant ad hoc tasks


Knowledge, skills, experience

  • Verbal and written communication skills - Verbal - e.g., experience of dealing with customers or working as part of a team. Communication – e.g., writing emails, completing an application form or essay, or if you have a hobby that involves creative writing.
  • Attention to detail - e.g. Cashing up on tills or proofreading coursework.
  • Organisation skills and ability to prioritise tasks - e.g., Planning events whether personal or for professional purposes, as well as managing work life balance, for example working whilst doing coursework/exams.
  • An understanding of and a passion for Channel 4's remit.
  • Confirm you have Maths & English GCSE Grade C (4) or above.
  • Enthusiastic, reliable, and excellent team player.
  • A passion for the social media landscape across all platforms.
  • An understanding of branded content on social platforms.


Eligibility criteria

  • You must be 18 years old or over at the time the scheme starts to apply. There is no upper age limit.
  • You’ll need to have a Grade C (4) or above in Maths & English GCSE.
  • You can’t have already completed the qualification being offered or similar at the same or higher level.
  • Our apprenticeships are aimed at school leavers and people who do not have a degree.

The programme aims to offer opportunities to those currently underrepresented in the TV industry, so we are particularly keen to hear from Deaf and/or disabled people, ethnically diverse people and people from lower socio-economic groups.
