Creative Access is one of the leading diversity organisations in the UK; a not-for-profit social enterprise, unrivalled in diverse recruitment, training and inclusion. The organisation helps talented people to thrive in the creative industries who come from groups that are under-represented in terms of ethnicity, socio-economic backgrounds and disability. We provide a range of services to companies, from recruitment to employer training and mentoring programmes. We work with over 400 creative companies including ITV, Hearst, Sky, Aardman Animations and The National Theatre.

We are looking for a proactive and creative individual to lead our communications across all channels including PR, social media and our website and jobs board. The role will lead communications to our alumni community, our employer partners, our internal team and key stakeholders, including our advisory board, ambassadors, influencers and the media. This is a small team with a big remit and big ambitions and the role requires both strategic leadership and a “hands-on” tactical approach.

This is an exciting opportunity to become an integral part of the senior Creative Access team and would suit an experienced leader in integrated communications, who is passionate about making change and inspiring young people and literate in both PR and social media.

 

Role objectives

  • To lead proactive and reactive external and internal communications across all Creative Access channels including PR, social media and our website and jobs board
  • To develop an annual communications (PR & social) plan that should: 
  1. amplify Creative Access’s voice within existing and target stakeholders
  2. support the organisation’s vision and mission
  3. make Creative Access culturally relevant and relevant to key target audiences
  4. demonstrate the success of our work
  5. ensure employer partners understand what we do
  6. reach candidates from communities that are under-represented in the sector
  7. engage effectively with stakeholders
  • Lead and develop the comms team – currently 3 people

 

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experience in a mid to senior level PR/social media/communications role – either in an agency or in-house
  • Experience of developing and delivering best in class, creative integrated communications/PR/social media strategies and plans
  • Hands-on experience of managing PR and social media programmes and developing written and visual content for these channels
  • Experience using Canva, Adobe In-design, Mailchimp, Wordpress and Hootsuite is useful but not essential
  • Interested in culture, diversity, creativity and what’s happening in the world
  • Understands market insight, data analysis and evaluation
  • Excellent communication skills and a high attention to detail
  • Resourceful, open, curious and creative

 

Key responsibilities

Overall

  • Developing an impactful and executable integrated communications strategy and tactical plan to support:
  1. the promotion of recruitment activities; including promotion of roles on the Opportunities page (specifically targeting those from under-represented communities) and for bespoke internship and job roles to new and existing audiences
  2. programme team events (including masterclass and showcases) and initiatives (eg mentoring programmes)
  3. employer training services; including new contracts and services in Diversity & Inclusion, Mental Health & Wellbeing and Leadership
  4. promotion of brand partnerships with our key employer partners - working with the head of partnerships
  5. Creative Access leadership in the sector and maintain and increase organisation’s cultural relevance
  • Review and refine visual and written content for all communication channels
  • Ensure content of our communications is accurate, inclusive and brand messaging is
  • Prominent and consistent across all channels and comms activity
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of our communication methodologies by monitoring and tracking analytics and data

PR

  • Develop Creative Access media relationships with sector-specific and mainstream press and proactively identify media opportunities/forward features
  • Manage and respond to inbound/reactive media enquiries
  • Lead and manage award-entry writing and identify new awards to enter with the comms team
  • Consider other showpiece events or initiatives that will build CA credibility and leadership in the sector: kite-mark, speaker opportunities, round-tables etc

Website

  • Oversee all content on the website, ensuring it is kept up to date with latest news, CA events, case studies, regular blog content, resources and FAQs
  • Regularly review website copy to reflect language and messaging changes
  • Maximise use of banner space on website to promote roles, CA programmes and events

Terms and conditions:

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum (or part-time equivalent)

Holiday entitlement: 22 days per calendar year, plus statutory English Bank holidays, the days between Christmas and New Year, and half a day for your birthday (pro-rated for part-time staff)

Probation Period: 3 months

Hours of Work: Standard office hours are 10.00 – 18.00 Monday to Friday. The expectation is for the post-holder to work at least 2 days per week in the Creative Access offices.

The post-holder will be expected to assume duties outside of working hours to support the delivery of the role and operation of the organisation when required. Open to discussing flexible terms.
