Working with another Curator, V&A East, this role is required to work collaboratively and play a significant strategic role within the Curatorial Team, co-leading the delivery of the V&A East Museum’s public offer, which includes two major permanent collection galleries, other collection displays and creative commissions.

The curators will also support the development of the overarching vision and content of V&A East public programme, interim projects, research initiatives and acquisitions strategy.

More than just a museum or collections store, the V&A East Museum and V&A East Storehouse will be a creative campus and social space embedded within its local community, focusing on equipping young people with the interest, knowledge, and skills they need to flourish creatively.

 

Knowledge, skills, experience

  • Academic background and record of scholarship in a relevant field, as well as demonstrable evidence of a variety of interests and breadth of knowledge beyond the specialist field, and demonstrable expertise in contemporary art and design
  • Experience of working in a curatorial role in a comparable institution, with experience of collection development, care, and documentation processes; and working on fast-paced, complex project(s)
  • Experience of managing external stakeholders, such as project partners and organisations, with diplomacy
  • A demonstrable interest in, and enthusiasm for, telling stories about collections through temporary and permanent collection displays, exhibitions, publications, learning and engagement
  • A track record in innovative display and exhibition curating and public programming, and working with learning specialists, content developers, designers, contemporary artists, marketing and communication specialists
  • A creative approach to the ways in which the museum might develop in this field and deliver new commissions
  • Excellent standard of written English and highly numerate with the ability to carry out complex numerical analysis
  • Experience of using MS Office and other relevant IT systems to an intermediate / advanced level
  • Significant interpersonal and consultative skills, including the ability to communicate, present, negotiate, influence and build credibility with colleagues and external parties
  • Significant experience of managing and prioritising a high workload and multiple complex issues and tasks in a changing environment with tight deadlines
