Digital marketing traineeship
Salary: £20,200 via training bursary (equivalent to Hachette UK’s entry level salary of £24,000 after tax and NI)
Traineeship location: this role will be based at Hachette UK’s London office. Hachette UK supports agile working and offers a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week

Hachette UK is excited to announce that its hugely successful traineeship programme will be running again this year, in partnership with literary agency Curtis Brown and booksellers Waterstones!
By taking part in this broad and exciting programme, 10 trainees will gain exposure to all elements of the journey of publishing a book, from pitch to production.

About the traineeship
Hachette UK is running a 12-month traineeship programme which will give 10 trainees the opportunity to gain a rich and diverse understanding of the publishing industry.
There will be 1 digital marketing placement as follows:
- 1 x 12-month digital marketing placement
This will be Hachette UK’s fifth intake of trainees and the programme continues to focus on making publishing more accessible to under-represented groups, as part of the publisher’s ‘Changing the Story’ vision for diversity and inclusion.
It is actively seeking applications from candidates from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse backgrounds, applicants from lower socio-economic backgrounds, and particularly men from both of these backgrounds, to help improve representation of these groups across Hachette UK.
What you will experience
- The trainee will spend the entire year within one of the publishing divisions
- They will specialise solely in digital marketing
- All the trainees will spend a month at Waterstones to learn the art of bookselling and understand consumer buying behaviour
- All the trainees will participate in a bespoke learning and development programme, with the opportunity to learn about the journey of publishing a book, from pitch to production
Knowledge, skills, experience
- Genuine interest in forging a career in publishing

- Can-do attitude and an enthusiasm for learning about a variety of tasks
- Good attention to detail, time management, and prioritisation skills
