Do you want to work across a bestselling fiction list and help super-charge its growth? This is great opportunity for someone to learn the editorial process within a friendly but busy office environment.

Hodder Fiction is the commercial engine of Hodder & Stoughton, a division of Hachette UK. Hodder & Stoughton has a celebrated 150-year history of publishing bestselling, award-winning popular fiction and non-fiction. Our fiction list is extensive and aims to publish the best books across all genres. We put the reader at the forefront of everything we do.

In this role you'll join one of the most successful imprints in the business. Working across the Hodder Fiction list, you’ll be responsible for providing editorial and administrative support to the Publishers and the wider editorial team in the acquisition and production of new titles, and to assist with all aspects of administration, co-ordination and driving of the publishing programme in all media.  This is an exciting, varied and highly creative role for someone with strong administrative skills, excellent attention to detail, a passion for books, and strong time management skills.

Responsibilities

The role will support three publishers, which means you will:

  • Become proficient in our native publishing systems
  • Become the first point of reliable contact for other departments and external colleagues
  • Read and report on manuscripts
  • Take minutes in meetings
  • Write cover briefs and liaise with the art and production teams
  • Take on tasks including proofreading, permissions checking, proof collation and checking copyedits, processing invoices, marking up reprints
  • Work on TIs and catalogue copy with editors
  • Organise diaries and travel, and much more.
  • You’ll be proactive, creative, hard-working, focused and passionate about fiction. You will be an excellent communicator with agents, authors and colleagues.
  • The role will be based at our London office, Carmelite House, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
