Are you a super-organised team player and a confident communicator? Do you want to be part of a team that works on some of the biggest children’s brands and picture books in the industry?

We have a new opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join our Puffin Picture Books team on a permanent basis.

From classic brands such as Beatrix Potter, Spot and The Very Hungry Caterpillar to picture-book creators including Tom Fletcher, Nadia Shireen, Nathan Bryon, Dapo Adeola, Rachel Morrisroe and Nick Sharratt, the Puffin picture books team works with some of the biggest names and brightest new talents to bring stories to life that change and shape lives.

Responsibilities

The role will involve a wide array of editorial and administrative tasks, including:

  • Managing book and prize submissions
  • Processing expenses
  • Maintaining internal systems
  • Proofreading book covers
  • Writing descriptive copy for books and marketing materials
  • Offering feedback on book proposals and manuscripts

What we're looking for

The role will be particularly suitable to someone who:

  • Is a voracious reader of children's fiction with an insatiable curiosity for new voices.
  • Is a team player, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a knack for working closely with stakeholders (whether colleagues, authors, agents or freelancers).
  • Is highly efficient, organised and proactive, with the ability to prioritise a demanding workload.
  • Has a meticulous eye for detail and for spotting (and solving) problems before they arise.

You don’t need previous publishing experience; merely an interest in books and a willingness and ability to learn.

Hybrid working

We’re experimenting with a hybrid way of working that suits the needs of each team. While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role, we’re looking for someone to work from our Pimlico office 3 days a week. The exact balance of office to remote working will depend on team needs, and we are open to discussing this through the recruitment process.

To apply

Please apply with your CV and Cover Letter by 23:59 on Tuesday 18th June. As part of your cover letter, please answer the following question:

  • We’re looking for someone with a passion for picture books. Tell us about a picture book which has impressed you and explain why it stood out (no more than 200 words).

The employer reserves the right to close the listing and stop accepting applications sooner than the original deadline. Therefore we strongly recommend applying at the earliest opportunity.

We welcome and encourage applications from candidates who are under-represented in the creative industries.

As a Disability Confident Committed organisation, we offer interviews to candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria for the role, and opt-in on their application form. There may be times when the volume of applications means we cannot take all eligible candidates to interview.
