We are looking for a marketing assistant to join our award-winning and expanding Academic & Professional books division.

As a marketing assistant, you will be working in a pivotal support role on marketing our books and online services to Law and Tax professional and academic communities. It is a varied and hands-on role, which will see you supporting the team – and our authors – with marketing campaigns across multiple channels.

With a number of initiatives to support diversity recently launched, such as our Widening Representation Programme and the Bloomsbury Academic Writing Fellowship, it is an exciting time to be joining Bloomsbury’s Academic and Professional Division. Our academic brands range from The Arden Shakespeare to the 33 1/3 series, and you’ll find our Law and Tax lists to be both interesting and dynamic, as our publishing needs to reflect changes in legislation and policy, and society more broadly. This role reports in to the Head of Marketing for Law, Tax and Accounting.

 

Responsibilities

Departmental (A&P): 

  • Daily assistance to up to 6 marketers on tasks ranging from leaflet creation or discount code generation, to planning social media activity
  • Ad hoc support for the wider Academic & Professional marketing team as requested 

Assistance to the immediate team includes (* indicates support is less frequent/ad hoc):

  • Day-to-day production of marketing and publicity materials for authors, such as flyers and social media visuals
  • Creation and deployment of marketing emails, to a brief  
  • Managing book reviewer contacts and outreach
  • Writing, researching and scheduling updates to social media accounts as requested 
  • Assisting with production and online distribution of Bloomsbury Professional catalogues
  • Updating the Bloomsbury and Bloomsbury Professional websites when required * 
  • Assisting with monthly review of AIs/marketing copy 
  • Producing sales materials such as stocklists or organising promotional materials for conferences *
  • Producing reports on request * 

 

Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential

  • Passionate about marketing and its role in academic/professional publishing 
  • Experience of working in an office environment within a team 
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills  
  • A can-do attitude and enthusiasm for supporting team members 
  • Outstanding attention to detail 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word  
  • An eye for design and creating visual content

Desirable

  • Relevant experience in publishing and/or marketing, ideally within an academic or professional environment (can include work experience or a specific qualification) 
  • Experience working with administrative systems and/or databases 
  • Knowledge of ESP and/or CMS software 
  • Knowledge of software in the Adobe Creative Cloud

 

Additional information

The role is based at our Oxford office (Chawley Business Park, Cumnor Hill, Oxford, OX2 9PH), on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office-based / 3 days home-based (or fully office-based if preferred).  Allocated office days for this role are Mondays and Thursdays.

As an Assistant role, this position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and to establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free rental deposit to support securing somewhere to live. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and will be paid back over 2 years.
