Location: this role will require working remotely (at home) and in BBC studios, predominantly in London

 Listen is looking for an experienced music radio producer to work across exciting youth-based shows, predominantly at the BBC Asian Network, but also developing ideas for new commissions across BBC networks and commercial platforms.

The role

Listen’s producers are required to take day-to-day responsibility for the production of one or more programmes and deliver them to the highest possible standard. Developing presenters and programme formats as required within the framework of the network’s priorities.

As a Listen producer you will be expected to continually deliver the highest editorial and production standards and be pre-emptive with practical, creative proposals for the content for which you are responsible.


The key elements of the job are:

  • Plan and produce your show
  • Communicate with network teams and keep them informed with show prospects and promotion
  • Develop new ideas and formats for shows in line with network strategy
  • Attend relevant network meetings
  • Direct and creatively develop presenting talent in a broadcasting environment
  • Operate studios (during live shows and pre-records) including technical decision-making during live shows
  • All of the above will need to be done whilst upholding BBC values (as well as Listen’s) at all times
  • Being proactive in developing ideas for new BBC and non-BBC commissions.


Who are we looking for? 

  • You’re someone with key producer-level credits, ideally on BBC or commercial network programming
  • You have excellent communication skills
  • You’re great at developing and managing presentation talent
  • Ideally with an enthusiastic interest in Asian music culture – or, if not, an aptitude to learn
  • You can edit using Pro Tools, BBC VCS Dira, Audacity, Logic Pro X and/or Reaper
  • You’re meticulous by nature – particularly when it comes to forward planning, booking contributors, writing scripts, and delivering paperwork
  • You have a passion for and knowledge of a wide range of subjects from music to arts, current affairs, pop culture and politics
  • You’re a self-starter when it comes to making new contacts and maintaining good relationships with network commissioners and talent (and agents)
  • You understand the importance of health and safety practices and what is required to achieve best practice in this kind of role
  • You are happy working outside of standard office hours, including weekends
  • You have a natural ability to stay calm under pressure
  • You are in your element when reacting to fast-changing situations
  • You love radio
  • You possess high level technical skills ad experience
  • You have ideas and possess the ability to articulate them effectively
  • You are aware of Ofcom Broadcasting Code
  • Experience of pitching new show/playlist ideas to BBC networks a bonus
