Job type: Fixed term contract between July 2024 – 10 September 2025, Part-time (3 days a week) 

Salary range: £27,630 - £30,918 per annum (£46,050 - £51,530 FTE) inclusive of Inner London Weighting, dependent on skills and experience.

We’re seeking a committed and experienced production manager to lead the technical planning and delivery of a new Barbican Immersive exhibition, opening in Summer 2025.

The Production Manager will work closely with the Exhibition Manager, Exhibition Organiser and Head of Creative Programme, to deliver a large-scale Summer Exhibition to be held from May to August 2025. The role will take particular responsibility for the detailed project management of the construction phase of the exhibition as well as the procurement of hi-spec audio visual equipment, supported by an AV Consultant, ensuring both exhibition build and AV equipment are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest possible standard.


Main responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest standard of practice is delivered in design, build, procurement, risk management, Health & Safety, and the care of artworks, whilst working closely with curatorial and external stakeholders.

Exhibition planning & build

  • To work closely with the Exhibition Manager on the production management of the Summer 2025 exhibition. Lead on the review, production and delivery of the exhibition’s build, AV and graphic elements in all spaces dedicated to the exhibition.
  • To ensure that exhibition build, equipment, and graphics are delivered to the highest standard and within budget.

Installation coordination

  • To work with the Exhibition Manager and Organiser to plan the installation and de-installation of the exhibition, overseeing all technical planning and creating method statements as required.
  • To act as a team leader during the installation and deinstallation, delegating to Technicians as required.

Management and administration

  • To work within set budgets, keeping records and files up to date as required.
  • To keep the Exhibition Manager and team members up to date with regular progress reports.
  • To maintain extensive knowledge of key procedures and implementing appropriate documentation, including but not limited to Health and safety and Risk Assessment Method Statements. 


Knowledge, skills and experience

  • You’ll have leading experience and knowledge of producing new exhibition build, multimedia commissions and art handling, including the installation of complex art works. 
  • With an ability to understand plans and technical specifications, you’ll be leading member of the team on issues relating to design and build. 
  • A broad understanding of new developments and best practice in the museum, gallery and immersive sector with regards to exhibition installation and design is expected, along with experience of Health & Safety at work in relation to risk management and CDM regulations.
