Kogan Page is a leading independent global publisher of consumer and specialist professional and academic books and digital content across business, management and related subjects.

They are seeking a publishing assistant to support the publishing department and to work with their commissioning editors.

This is an ideal opportunity for anyone starting out on their career in publishing and is the first stage in becoming a development and then commissioning editor.

 

Overall purpose

To provide administrative support to the publishing department and develop a range of editorial skills and knowledge.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Support the publishing department with publishing meeting administration
  • Liaise with authors and co-publishing partners on contracts, author questionnaires and relevant correspondence
  • Request and track advances and other payments
  • Support the publishing team by preparing manuscript handovers and title briefings
  • Maintain publishing records on the Biblio database
  • Carry out customer-facing market research for new editions and new book projects
  • Arrange the sending out of gratis and complimentary copies of books
  • Any other tasks as requested by the publishing team or director

 

Knowledge, skills, experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including World, Excel and Outlook
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • The demonstrable ability to manage multiple projects at various stages
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrable ability to work collaboratively in a team and develop good relationships with authors and other stakeholders

Desirable

  • Previous publishing experience is desirable but not necessary
