The 'ITV Academy' is ITV's production training and development initiative providing development programmes for existing production staff, as well as traineeships and entry-level pathways into the UK's largest commercial broadcaster. Being part of the Academy you will be offered industry leading production training and an additional level of support within a particular business area and throughout your time at ITV.

As a trainee makeup artist, your role will be to ensure all artists are in appropriate hair and make-up and are ready prior to location/studio filming. You'll also maintain continuity of makeup and hair throughout the filming day and throughout the block. Finally, you'll work closely with make up supervisors, make up artists and all other departments in order to ensure the correct and appropriate ‘look’ of all artists.

What you will learn

  • Ability to communicate with a range of artists, maintaining complete discretion
  • Ability to communicate well with production team
  • Responsible for making up (hair and make-up) and maintaining ‘look’ throughout filming
  • Ensuring continuity throughout the filming day paying particular attention to overall continuity throughout that block
  • Preparing appropriate make-up/wigs etc. Ensuring care and cleanliness of equipment/ wigs and hairpieces and any other make-up device required as per script
  • Breaking down of schedule/story in order to discern make-up requirements in conjunction with make-up supervisor
  • Ability to deal with artists in a positive, sensitive manner
  • Ability to style hair and apply makeup

Minimum criteria

  • A hair & makeup qualification is essential
  • A passion for special effects makeup
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Self-motivated, reliable and proactive
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to take a variety of approaches when dealing with issues and problems
  • The ability to take ownership of your own development (including personal development), be proactive and act on feedback
  • Flexibility to work long, unsocial hours, on location and in inclement weather conditions
