Do you talk about the best new books with everyone you know? Do you enjoy being organised and proactive? This could be the role for you!

We are looking for a Communications Assistant to join our Publicity team in Ireland.

Penguin Random House Ireland is Ireland’s leading publisher, and we cover all markets and genres. We are literary and commercial; fiction and non-fiction; local and global. We have a fantastic and extensive portfolio of authors including Paul Murray, Liz Nugent, Colin Barrett, Emily Henry, Johnny Sexton, Sinéad Moriarty, Stephen Fry, Elizabeth Strout, James Rebanks, Robin Stevens and Jeff Kinney.

This is an exciting entry-level opportunity for someone who is keen to learn about the world of publicity and to support the team working across a huge variety of genres.

Key tasks

You will be responsible for general administration for the team, with responsibilities including:

  • Organising meetings
  • Communicating with journalists and authors
  • Organising publicity schedules, travel and accommodation
  • Accompanying authors to interviews and attend events, which will involve some evenings and weekends.

Plus, much more!

What you’ll bring

  • We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a team, is full of ideas and has a creative approach.
  • You must be flexible, have a great eye for detail, and be able to prioritise and organise.
  • You must be highly computer-literate.
  • Some basic design experience would be helpful but is not essential.
  • We’re looking for someone who enjoys engaging on social media.
  • You’ll need excellent interpersonal skills over email, phone and in-person, combined with the confidence to communicate with both authors and the press.

About Penguin

We’re the UK’s largest publisher; made up of some 2,000 people and publishing over 1,500 books each year. Our doors are open to all kinds of talent. In a constantly evolving industry, we work hard to stretch the definition of the word publisher. Here, you’ll work with a breadth of talent who all play their part to make each of our books a success. Together, we make books for everyone because a book can change anyone.

How to apply

Please apply with your CV and Cover Letter by Thursday 19th September. As part of your cover letter, please tell us about a recent book you loved and why we should read it too (in more than 200 words).

Please note untailored Cover Letters will not be considered. We expect interviews to take place across late September and early October.

Competitive benefits package

Our people are the heart of our business, and we work hard to support a culture of responsibility and recognition.

Our benefits include:

  • Financial – discounted shopping and season travel loan
  • Wellbeing - healthcare insurance, cycle to work scheme, gym loan
  • Lifestyle – volunteering policy and free and discounted books

For more information on our benefits, please talk to the Recruiter through the recruitment process.

Hybrid working

We’re experimenting with a hybrid way of working that suits the needs of each team. While our offices across the UK and Ireland are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role we expect that the successful person would work at least three days in the office.

The employer reserves the right to close the listing and stop accepting applications sooner than the original deadline. Therefore we strongly recommend applying at the earliest opportunity.

We welcome and encourage applications from candidates who are under-represented in the creative industries.

Please state in your application that you found this role through Creative Access.
