The Publishers Association is seeking an experienced, creative and proactive digital communications manager to join our communications team. Maximise our digital footprint and make a huge impact on the UK's world-leading publishing industry!

Reporting to the Director of Communications, this role is at the heart of how we communicate with our members, stakeholders and the outside world. No two days are the same, with your work encompassing responsibilities across content, websites, brand, campaigns, social media, publications and design. You’ll work closely with Publishers Association members, associates and internal colleagues, and with external agencies, to develop and deliver impactful digital communications to support our wide-ranging activities across multiple channels.

In this role you will use your experience to oversee the production process of content and products of all shapes and sizes – from timely social media posts to powerful campaigning video content – in line with our digital first approach, making sure everything is true to our brand, connects with our audiences, and is inclusive and accessible to all. You will also use your skills to lead on communication activities for some key Publishers Association events and to help us ensure we are engaging and communicating effectively with our members.

This role will also be involved in the administration of some of our sector groups – working with colleagues to plan meetings and engagement, and using outputs to drive our member communications, social media and campaign content. You will have strong organisation skills and experience of managing a varied workload while paying attention to the tiny details that matter. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in digital communications and share our ambition to grow our social channels, ensure our website and digital publications are high-quality, accessible and impactful, and help the Publishers Association make the case for the UK publishing sector through our content and campaigns.
 

Key responsibilities

  • Manage creation, upload and editing of content across the main Publishers Association website and other websites linked to campaigns and services.
  • Contribute to ongoing management and development of key websites, including interaction with web support.
  • Planning, strategy, evaluation and day-to-day management of social media channels.
  • Develop, manage and grow key e-newsletters.
  • Implement and/or support digital campaigns across platforms through content creation, copywriting, editing, planning and analytics.
  • Design and produce campaign assets and key publications e.g. annual report, including editorial management.
  • Manage the association’s brand and visual identity, supporting colleagues and external partners to access and effectively use brand resources and templates.
  • Support communications/marketing activity linked to key external and member events.
  • Support the membership team with digital marketing activity including integration with CRM.
  • Manage design projects and act as liaison with external designers.
  • Develop and edit audiovisual content for digital platforms.
  • Ensure digital content is engaging, topical/up-to-date and relevant and supports objectives.
  • Work with colleagues to identify ideas for stories and maintain a content plan/pipeline.
  • Produce targets/plans for our digital communications, and report on and evaluate activity across channels.
  • Keep up to date with current digital trends, developments and resources and incorporate knowledge in ongoing development of association’s digital communications.

 

Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential 

  • Strong digital skills, including experience of maintaining and designing websites (specifically WordPress); confident using website content management systems and using social media platforms and forms.
  • Experience of creating and editing engaging content.
  • Excellent design skills and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft packages.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with external suppliers and third-party service providers.
  • Excellent organisational, planning and time/workload management skills.
  • Knowledge of evaluation / monitoring to assess impact.
  • Good team player with ability to work collaboratively.

Desirable 

  • Empathy for the UK publishing sector and a belief in value of the creative industries.
  • Experience of working in the creative industries, for a membership organisation, or in a public policy or research and statistics role.
  • Experience supporting delivery of in-person and online events (as part of a small team).

 

Additional information

This role is based at the Publishers Association’s office near London Bridge. There is a minimum of two days a week in the office on the core days of Monday and Wednesday.

We will invite shortlisted candidates to an in-person assessment and interview at our London offices in November.
