Graduate research executive
Closing date: 25th February 2025
Salary: £26,000
Calling curious grads! Kickstart your career with this dynamic research role where every week brings a fresh challenge, from vegan food insights to global brand strategies.
Basis, an independent insight consultancy, is looking for Graduate Research Executives to join us in our Consumer and B2B team in London. We’re experts in engaging with and drawing insights from people worldwide, in lots of ways: through qualitative and quantitative methods, the application of AI to big data, and many other things besides.
The culture at Basis is friendly and non-hierarchical: we believe in training our graduates up fast with hands-on support every step of the way. From day one, you’ll be working on live projects, helping to deliver strategic insight for brands. Our work is challenging and varied, across categories like tech, media, travel, FMCG and more. You’ll be working on something new and exciting all the time; one week, possibly uncovering potential for vegan food products in Germany; the next, measuring opportunities for new tech in the US, or helping to reposition a home brand in Japan and India.
What we're looking for
We’re looking for graduates to work with qualitative and / or quantitative data. However, a prior background in either, or in any type of research, is definitely not essential. Here’s what we are looking for…
- Strong writing and communication skills, with expert / excellent English fluency
- Curiosity around people – who they are, and what drives them
- A problem-solving mindset: motivated to find solutions for our clients’ challenges
- Both a team player and a self-starter
- Heaps of enthusiasm and determination
- Willingness to travel for work – in the UK with international opportunities too
- Ambition to learn and grow
- Flexibility: open to varying working hours, and no two weeks being the same
- An ability to think logically and work quickly
- Organisational and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Digital competence: able to work digitally across platforms, or willing to upskill
- At least a 2.1 in any university degree
- Ability to speak another language can be a plus, but not essential
Benefits
Graduate Research Executives at Basis start on a salary of £26,000. On top of this, some of the benefits we offer:
- 25 days of annual leave, plus public holidays and office closure days during the Christmas period
- Private healthcare and eye tests
- Pension contributions
- A discretionary bonus scheme
- Cycle to Work scheme, season ticket loans, lots of social events and an annual company trip abroad
Additional information
The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK and be able to work 5 days per week from our Central London office – the reality is that very few people work all 5 days in the office (typically people work 3-4 days in the office), but being able to be in the office e.g. for a client meeting, on any given day is a necessity.
This opportunity is for a 2025 start, ideally in the next few months, but we’re flexible for the right person. It’s a primarily office-based role in our beautiful offices a few minutes from Tottenham Court Road, complete with rooftop terrace! So you must be able and willing to attend in person day-to-day.
To apply
If you’re interested, please send your application via email the 'Apply' button with the subject ‘Graduate Research Executive’, by Tuesday 25th February.
Please attach your CV, along with a 250-word response to each of these short tasks:
- Tell us about a brand that you feel is not ready for 2025.
- We deal with brands all the time – so focusing on supermarket brands, we’d like you to think about Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Asda. How would you describe them as brands? Do you believe UK consumers might see them differently to each other, and if so, in what ways? If not, why not?
Please note: We use internal mechanisms to check for use of tools like ChatGPT in answer creation. Later in the interview process, we also incorporate in-person assessment of written and verbal skills, and match earlier answers to these. So please rely on your own abilities, as that’s what we want to know about! We will exclude candidates whom we know to have been dependent on AI for their responses.
Basis is an equal opportunities employer, committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment where our employees are treated fairly regardless of race, gender, ability, religion, sexual orientation or age. We therefore ask if along with your CV you could please complete the following equal opportunities form.
