
Marketing and advertising executive

Location: London WC1, the role is primarily office based with some flexibility
Hours: Full time, 9am – 5pm with occasional overtime, and weekend and evening work to attend fairs and conferences

The Burlington Magazine is one of the world’s leading art publications, published without interruption since 1903. Each monthly issue is devoted to art of all ages and media, with richly illustrated articles presenting significant discoveries and fresh interpretations. A not-for-profit enterprise, our purpose is to support and promote new research. Our online archive is an unrivalled resource, and this is complemented by collaborations with major collections, writing prizes, lectures and scholarships.
We are looking for a marketing and advertising executive to join our dedicated and friendly team in Bloomsbury WC1 and manage our social media and newsletter programmes and website content updates. The role also supports the commercial team in delivering marketing and subscriptions campaigns, paid social advertising, and other commercial initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Manage day to day content scheduling and engagement with Burlington’s social media communities
- Work with marketing and readership manager, assisting with subscription campaigns, leading on books and prizes campaigns
- Responsible for newsletter programme, including The Burlington Magazine, Burlington Contemporary and advertising newsletters
- Manage and update adverts and content on website using the information management system (IMS) and content management system (CMS)
Marketing & readership
- Manage day to day social media content using scheduling tools
- Responsible for newsletter and email marketing using Mailchimp
- Create paid social advertising using Meta ads manager and analyse results
- Cover the marketing and readership manager when absent as primary contact for subscription services provider, generating reports as required
- Assist the marketing and readership manager and lead campaigns where appropriate
- Provide social media analytics for board meetings and campaign reports
- Create and manage Burlington merchandise
- Arrange promotional partnerships with aligned institutions for monthly issues and support marketing and readership manager with exchange advertising arrangements
- Analyse and report on results internally and to institutional partners using GA4
- Maintain promotional, marketing and other related databases, as required
Advertising & partnerships
- Build and send advertising newsletters for each upcoming issue
- Provide advertising rate card and answer advertising queries as required
- Assist the head of partnerships with upkeep and maintenance of advertising database on Filemaker
- Assist the head of partnerships with events, fairs and conferences, and attend as required
- Attend client meetings, liaise with galleries as required
Other duties
- Update adverts and content on website using IMS and CMS
- Provide reception and telephone cover in the absence of the office administrator
- Assist the head of commercial design and production as required, chasing up advertising copy and assist with contract publication activity
Knowledge, skills & experience
- Experience using: social media scheduling tools (e.g. Later), email marketing tools (e.g. Mailchimp), Meta Ads Manager and Google Analytics 4
- Educated to degree level, marketing or publishing degree (or MA) preferred
- Proven marketing experience
- High level of proficiency in written English (to publishing standard in spelling and grammar)
- An interest in art history desirable, but not essential
- Have the right to work in the UK
