As marketing and publishing intern, you will support the running of HarrisonParrott’s Marketing team and Birdsong Music Publishing, a HarrisonParrott Associated Company. This is an ideal role for someone with a passion for music, excellent communication and copywriting skills, knowledge of social media and attention to detail.

What you'll be doing

Birdsong Music Publishing: Catalogue and score/parts administration

  • Proofread copyright information, instrumentation list, commissioner, programme notes and relevant details on scores
  • Create title pages to fit Birdsong’s house style using Adobe Acrobat
  • Assist with uploading scores to the digital sheet music hub including inputting metadata
  • Update Birdsong’s works catalogue.

Birdsong Music Publishing: Marketing

  • Ensure Birdsong’s website is accurate and up to date, performing regular checks and audits.
  • Day-to-day management of Birdsong’s social media channels (Instagram, X, Facebook and LinkedIn).
  • Creating and scheduling content for Birdsong’s social media channels using Canva and Hootsuite.
  • Writing news articles for the website.
  • Assist with creating monthly internal and external mailouts using Mailchimp.

Birdsong Music Publishing: General

  • Track composition performance dates on Overture.
  • Assist with research when necessary (e.g. A&R research and Prize and Grant applications).
  • Use DISCO to upload recordings and create playlists.

Marketing – Social Media

  • Responsible for the process by which news and digital content is uploaded to social media channels (TikTok, X, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn).
  • Day-to-day management of all social media channels.
  • Create a content calendar of regular social media posts using Hootsuite.
  • Assist with creation of weekly/monthly Instagram Reels for departments.
  • Create content for social media channels, including a selection of photographs, videos, and articles using Canva.

Marketing – website and news

  • Regular updates to the HP website including, but not limited to, adding reviews, videos, audio, photos, biographies, and concert calendars
  • Responsible for the weekly webnews process, ensuring news items are uploaded in a timely manner, proofread, and added to the appropriate pages on the website
  • Responsible for monthly albums webnews item
  • Assisting with building new artist and client pages on the website
  • Updating the monthly touring home page, track record, tour scheudles, and webnews
  • Assist with proofreading artist biographies

Marketing – General

  • BBC Music Magazine and Grammophone magazine reviews and clippings distribution to colleagues
  • Assist with creation of weekly internal newsletter
  • Assist with updating the company intranet

What you'll learn

Marketing Skills

  • Social Media Management: Learning how to manage and grow social media channels (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, X).
  • Content Creation: Using Canva and Hootsuite to design and schedule engaging posts, including videos, Reels, and articles.
  • Copywriting & Proofreading: Writing website news articles, newsletters, and artist biographies with attention to detail.
  • Email Marketing: Assisting with Mailchimp campaigns for internal and external communication.
  • Website Management: Updating websites with new content, artist pages, and concert details.

Music Publishing & Administration

  • Catalogue Management: Learning how to maintain and update a music publishing catalog, including proofreading copyright information and metadata entry.
  • Score & Parts Administration: Handling digital sheet music, ensuring correct formatting and metadata for online distribution.
  • Tracking & Research: Using tools like Overture to track performances and research grants or A&R opportunities.
  • Playlist Curation: Uploading and organising music recordings in DISCO for internal and external use.

Professional Development

  • Project Management: Managing multiple deadlines across marketing and publishing tasks
  • Industry Knowledge: Gaining insight into music marketing, digital distribution, and publishing processes
  • Networking & Communication: Collaborating with internal teams, artists, and industry professionals.


Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Strong Communication & Writing – Basic experience with writing and proofreading (e.g., university coursework, blogging, or social media posts)
  • Interest in Music & Marketing – A passion for music and curiosity about marketing, social media, and publishing
  • Attention to Detail – Ability to check information carefully (useful for proofreading and catalog updates)
  • Basic Organisational Skills – Managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
  • Digital & Technical Knowledge (Beneficial but not essential)
  • Social Media Awareness – Familiarity with platforms like Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, and Facebook
  • Canva & Hootsuite – Some exposure to design tools or scheduling software (or willingness to learn)
  • Website Editing – Experience with updating websites (even basic knowledge of WordPress or similar is helpful)
  • Music Notation & Metadata – A basic understanding of music scores and digital music organisation is useful but can be learned on the job
  • Eagerness to Learn – This is a training role, so a proactive attitude and willingness to pick up new skills are key
  • Creativity & Initiative – Bringing fresh ideas for content and marketing strategies
  • Team Player – Comfortable working collaboratively and supporting different teams
