We have an exciting opportunity for a highly organised, enthusiastic, and energetic marketing assistant to join our busy, award-winning, and friendly team.

Profile Books is a leading independent publisher with strengths in general trade non-fiction and fiction. Its imprints include Serpent’s Tail, Souvenir Press, Wellcome Collection, The Economist and Viper Books. Bestselling authors include Mary Beard, Robert Greene, G.T Karber, Sarah Perry, Esi Edugyan, and Torrey Peters.

This is a brilliant first step into marketing, and the publishing industry. Assisting the Marketing Director and team, and reporting into the Marketing Manager, you will work across all our lists.

You don’t need publishing or marketing experience – we are looking for a curious and passionate self-starter, full of ideas, keyed into trends and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. You will be a keen reader across multiple genres and have a thirst for learning – and for ensuring the department’s activity runs smoothly at all times. This is a job for someone aiming for a career path in marketing, rather than a route into editorial or other roles.

The role offers the opportunity to learn analytics, social media advertising, video editing, graphics production, and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Marketing Director and team with day-to-day tasks on campaigns as well as general team processes
  • Organise proof production and distribution
  • Contribute ideas and creative thinking to marketing meetings
  • Liaise with other departments on campaigns and pitches
  • Write creative, selling copy across social media and newsletters
  • Produce, schedule and monitor social media content and developments across all platforms
  • Produce graphics and other marketing materials
  • Produce slides for sales conferences, and sell-in material
  • Be the key liaison for audio marketing
  • Conduct influencer and partnership research, outreach, and mailings
  • Assist with events (online and offline)
  • Attend meetings and take minutes
  • Maintain and develop contact lists with adherence to GDPR

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • A love of books
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands and excellent organisation
  • Time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of how to engage communities across social media platforms
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • A knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop will be beneficial

How to apply

Please apply with your CV and Cover Letter by 23:59 on Tuesday 21st May.

As part of the covering letter, please include answers to the following:

  • What interests you particularly about working for Profile books?
  • What is a recent marketing campaign or piece of marketing activity that caught your attention and why? This can be from any industry (max 200 words).
