We are looking for a creative, adaptable and passionate person to support our team and work across our critically acclaimed, bestselling General and Lifestyle lists publishing fiction, non-fiction and cookery. As part of the marketing team you will sit at the heart of the publishing process, working with all other departments across the company, in an exciting and varied role where no two days are the same. This is a brilliant first step into marketing, and the publishing industry.
You’ll join a dynamic, collaborative and friendly team that works across all three of Bloomsbury’s Adult divisions: Trade, General, and Lifestyle. You will have a specialist focus on the Bloomsbury General and Lifestyle lists, and you will be part of an exciting time of growth for these new divisions.
Alongside the Marketing Director, and the Heads Of these divisions, you’ll assist in the planning and execution of everything from campaigns to conferences, with tonnes of opportunities to learn from your experienced colleagues. You’ll be exposed to all kinds of marketing – from digital to out-of-home, trade to consumer – and as the role develops, you will have the opportunity to take on marketing campaigns of your own.
You don’t need publishing or marketing experience – we are looking for someone enthusiastic, ambitious, and passionate about connecting readers everywhere with their next great read.
Bloomsbury’s General and Lifestyle lists are home to a range of page-turning bestsellers and unmissable cookbooks. It includes legendary names such as Katie Fforde, Samantha Shannon, Alan Moore, Stuart Turton, the cast of Ghosts, Tom Kerridge and Dishoom; as well as bestselling, breakout voices such as Poppy Cooks, Jon Watts, Bal Khabra and Rosie Andrews.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Marketing Director and Heads Of Marketing with day-to-day tasks on campaigns as well as general team processes
- Helping to run social media campaigns and channels (for example, Bloomsbury Cooks, Raven Books), including creation of engaging and share-worthy digital content, and influencer outreach
- Play a key role in developing newsletter content, feeding into content strategy, and contributing to growth across Bloomsbury’s channels
- Build relationships with key contacts in all other departments across the company, supporting cross-departmental comms and meetings
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the marketing team
- Build up the marketing campaign knowledge and experience to manage your own campaigns
- Administrative responsibilities to help with the smooth running of the wider marketing team, including coordination of internal and external meetings, and working closely with the Group Marketing & Publicity Director and Marketing Director on diary admin and key internal meetings
- Assist with the preparation of presentations, conferences and showcase events
- Processing invoices and keeping budget sheets up-to-date
- Administering, running and fulfilling reader competitions
- A team superuser for platforms such as NetGalley, Sprout Social and Bloomsbury.com
- You’ll report to the Head of Marketing, General Division, but work closely with all members of the team
Knowledge, skills and experience
- A passion for books
- Experience using a range of social media platforms
- Excellent MS Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
- Excellent communication skills
- An eye for design
- Organised, proactive and creative
- A team player, with strong interpersonal skills and a great attitude
- Ability to juggle and prioritise lots of competing demands
- Great time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Interest in pursuing new marketing opportunities and new ways of reaching readers, staying abreast of key publishing trends and the wider book market
Additional information
The role is a full-time permanent position with an annual salary of £27,000.
The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Mondays and Tuesdays.
As an Assistant role, this position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and to establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free rental deposit to support securing somewhere to live. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and will be paid back over 2 years.
