The Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) is one of Scotland’s five National Performing Companies and has been a galvanizing force in Scotland’s music scene since its inception in 1974. The SCO believes that access to world-class music is not a luxury but something that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in, helping individuals and communities everywhere to thrive.

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Marketing and Communications Assistant to support the day‑to‑day operations of our busy Marketing and Communications department. This varied role is ideal as an entry‑level position for someone looking to build a career in arts marketing and communications while learning a wide range of practical skills. You will develop strong administrative and organisational experience while coordinating information, maintaining systems, handling customer enquiries and supporting marketing, ticketing and front‑of‑house activity across Scotland. With involvement in marketing campaigns, digital content, CRM and live events, this role offers an outstanding opportunity to learn, develop and gain hands‑on experience within a supportive, fast‑moving organisation.

Key responsibilities

Marketing and Communications:

  • Work with the Marketing and Communications Team to maximise tickets sales for the SCO’s concerts across the country.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications Manager on posting/scheduling social media updates.
  • Add SCO concert information onto various listings websites – e.g. Songkick, ConcertDiary.com, Data Thistle.
  • Be the first port of call for all website updates: creating events, artist/player/staff profile pages and contribute to the website editorial content.
  • Liaise with Supercool, the SCO’s website developers for any query related to the main structure of the website via their support desk.
  • Archive the press cuttings as they come in from SCO’s PR agency.
  • Compile artists' biographies and photographs and keep an up-to-date library of Orchestra and artist photographs.

Ticketing and CRM/Database Work:

  • Be a key member of the SCO ticketing function, reserving seats, processing orders on Spektrix and dealing with customer ticket enquiries.
  • Update the customer database and process merchandise orders, reserving complimentary concert tickets.
  • Liaise with the Ticketing and CRM Manager and Spektrix Support Desk on any CRM/database queries that may arise.
  • Liaise with Learning and Participation team on ticket sales for audience development events.

Front of House:

  • Prepare materials for concert duty representative (boxes of material, merchandise stock, floats with Finance Department) and coordinate the Marketing Department concert duty rota.
  • Prepare and circulate the front of house notes to relevant venue and SCO staff on duty
  • Be on concert front of house duty when required.

Administrative Support:

  • Deal with SCO phone enquiries and emails to info@sco.org.uk and boxoffice@sco.org.uk
  • Provide general administrative support for the Marketing Director and CEO as required, including booking travel and accommodations where required.
  • Note-taking at marketing and communication team meetings, circulating actions.

Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential

  • Organised and systematic with meticulous attention to detail.
  • A high level of administrative skills and customer care.
  • Experience of content management systems and website maintenance.
  • Experience of posting on social media platforms.
  • Experience of data entry, database reports and database maintenance.
  • An interest in marketing and communications.
  • A team player and able to work on own initiative.

Desirable

  • PA Experience (e.g. organising and supporting the running of meetings, booking travel)
  • Experience of using Spektrix CRM System.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, specifically Office 365.
  • A proficient driver with a clean driving licence.
