Learn the ins and outs of how an independent children's book publisher operates – with a key focus on public relations – in this 12-month internship.

David Fickling Books (DFB) has been an independent children’s book publisher for 10 years now, but for nearly twelve years before that was run as an imprint – first as part of Scholastic, then of Random House. Since 2013, DFB has operated as an independent business, alongside its sister company, The Phoenix Comic.

This marketing support internship will provide the right candidate with an entry point into the publishing industry and the communications career path. Supporting the small team based in Oxford over the course of twelve months, you will gain insight into the publishing process and career-long skills.

  • Support across DFB social media sites, with the creation of content for all channels.
  • Working with Marketing colleagues to ensure the smooth running of POS (Point of Sale Material) requests and customers’ publicity requests
  • Maintaining PR roundups with national and regional review coverage and PR and media activity
  • Putting forward DFB titles for regional and national book awards and submitting titles for relevant industry promotions
  • Managing PR requests including the distribution of manuscripts when requested
  • Submitting titles for The Bookseller previews
  • A fantastic opportunity to get involved in the breadth of the publishing cycle

  • A genuine curiosity about the marketing career path within book publishing
  • Strong communication skills, both written and in person
