Thames & Hudson is one of the world’s leading publishers of illustrated books. Our diverse list covers art & design, photography, fashion, history, archaeology, mythology, esoterica and other non-fiction subjects. We also publish children’s books and non-book products. We are looking for a talented and experienced press officer to join our communications team and help us promote our titles across various media channels.
As a press officer, you will play a crucial role in promoting our illustrated and narrative non-fiction titles. You will be responsible for planning, implementing, and managing publicity campaigns for your assigned books each season. This role requires creativity, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with media contacts and event organisers.
Responsibilities
- Proactively and independently plan and manage publicity campaigns for books on art & design, photography, history, archaeology, mythology, and esoterica
- Liaise with authors, agents, and other related third parties on publicity plans and demonstrate good author care
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to collate, prepare and approve publicity materials
- Write targeted and impactful press releases and pitch emails
- Build and maintain media contact lists across all related areas
- Report effectively on secured coverage to internal and external stakeholders
- Attend and contribute to key meetings, providing professional follow-up
- Work positively with publishing partners to promote co-published titles
- Arrange and manage book tours, including public and private events
- Manage campaign budgets efficiently and complete related administrative tasks in a timely manner
- Share updates and materials with global offices and international co-publishers
- Contribute to comms team and inter-departmental brainstorms and planning meetings
- Stay updated on changes in the publicity landscape
- Other tasks as required on occasion
Knowledge, skills & experience
- Proven track record of independently producing standout publicity campaigns within publishing or the arts
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organised and efficient, with the ability to multi-task and prioritise appropriately
- Excellent administrative skills
- Experience working with museums and galleries is desirable
- Organised and professional approach to work and presentation
- Team player with a collegiate attitude
- Proactive in seeking new channels and media platforms for coverage
- Strong interest in visual arts, design, and illustrated publishing
