Are you looking for a social media role at the heart of the book trade or theatre industry?

The Stage Media Company Ltd, based in London Bridge, is dedicated to providing up-to-date news and services for the UK’s theatre, performing arts and book publishing industry with two key titles: The Stage and The Bookseller. Both The Stage and The Bookseller are established leaders within their respective fields, offering industry news, authoritative reviews/interviews and insightful features.

The Stage Media Company is seeking two Social Media Assistants, to assist with social media activity for its titles: The Stage and The Bookseller. This is an excellent opportunity to join the team of a prestigious media organisation.

The successful candidates will have good knowledge of different social media platforms and some experience of social media marketing or content creation. They will have excellent written skills and exceptional attention to detail. The ideal candidates will be familiar with either the book publishing or theatre industry.

The Social Media Assistants are responsible for facilitating the day-to-day activity on The Stage or The Bookseller’s social media channels, with support from the corresponding Senior Social and Subscriptions Marketing Executive. They will create social media content to reach and engage current and new audiences, drive traffic to website content, increase subscriptions and promote brand activity and events.

What you will do

Community management

  • Monitoring notifications, comments and messages across all the principal social channels on a daily basis
  • Ensuring all enquiries are responded to promptly, and seeking support from other team members if required
  • Liking/sharing relevant comments/replies

Editorial content

  • Sharing The Stage or The Bookseller’s editorial content across social channels, including X, Bluesky, Threads, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and any new or emerging platforms, with the primary objective of driving traffic to the website
  • Creating and scheduling social media posts with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Writing engaging copy for social media posts, maintaining The Stage/Bookseller’s professional, supportive and approachable tone of voice
  • Ensuring content is shared in the optimum format and on the most relevant platforms
  • Prioritising and sharing news in a timely manner and scheduling less time-sensitive content for optimum times through the day
  • Liaising regularly with the editorial and production teams to align with their content priorities, support special features and gather any required information or assets

Subscriptions

  • Sharing the weekly issue on social media to encourage subscriptions
  • Creating social media posts to support subscriptions objectives or campaigns as directed by the Senior Social & Subscriptions Marketing Executive
  • Setting up and monitoring paid social ads for subscriptions campaigns as directed by the Senior Social & Subscriptions Marketing Executive

Commercial support

  • Posting advertiser content on social channels and ensuring this fits within The Stage/Bookseller’s tone of voice and format of posting
  • Sharing content from The Stage Jobs/Jobs in Books account to the main channels to boost performance
  • Monitoring the automated tweets on the Jobs channels to ensure they are working as expected and are presented in the most effective format

Events

  • Assisting the Senior Social & Subscriptions Marketing Executive in promoting The Stage/ Bookseller’s events, including awards and conferences, on social media
  • Ensuring events activity does not clash with editorial content and aligns with the overall brand and tone of voice on social media
  • Posting social media content during conferences and awards, including live tweeting panels and winners

Reporting

  • Monitoring post performance on a daily basis in order to capitalise on content/topics that are performing well
  • Tracking statistics for channel and content performance on a monthly basis
  • Summarising highlights and areas of concern from the monthly results
  • Analysing results and investigating what has caused spikes and drops
  • Suggesting actions for the next month based on findings

Other

  • Monitoring the social channels of competitors and other big players in the industries
  • Undertaking research related to social media when requested and presenting findings to educate the team
  • Staying on top of social media trends, platform updates and new features and sharing this with the marketing team
  • Supporting the marketing team with general activity or other social channels where required and especially at busy periods

What we are looking for

  • Copywriting skills, including the ability to adapt tone and style for different platforms and audiences
  • Ability to craft engaging captions and headlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with followers and handling comments
  • Basic photo, video editing and graphic design ability, on platforms such as Canva and CapCut
  • Proficiency with major social media platforms (Instagram, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok)
  • Understanding of platform-specific features, formats, and best practices
  • Familiarity with social media management tools (like Hootsuite, Buffer)
  • Understanding of social media trends and algorithms
  • Basic analytics knowledge to measure performance
  • Adaptability to keep up with changing trends
  • Proactiveness in identifying opportunities

An understanding of the theatre or book publishing industry is desirable.

Other information

Normal working hours are 35 hours per week, with occasional evening or weekend work to cover events. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, requiring at least three days a week at The Stage’s office on Bermondsey Street, SE1, with opportunities for remote work on the other day.
