We are seeking an individual with a strong interest in contemporary art and museums, as well as a strong desire to gain experience in being a trustee.

The Contemporary Art Society (CAS) champions the collecting of outstanding contemporary art and craft for public collections in the UK.

The organisation is currently looking for a new trustee to join its Board. The Board meets 4 times a year, typically for between one and two hours, and usually in central London, with the ability for Trustees to join via online if they cannot attend in person. The term will be for two years, with the possibility of extending to a third year. If a candidate from outside of London is appointed, reasonable costs of travel will be covered. Please note that this is a voluntary position.

What this role involves

  • You will help to ensure there is no disconnect between the Board and the beneficiaries of the organisation's charitable work
  • You will help the organisation in making better-informed decisions
  • You will help CAS to respond to changing patterns of engagement with cultural activity, in order to reach a wider audience

What this role offers you

  • This is an opportunity for networking, to develop your CV, and potentially boost further employment and education opportunities
  • A chance to give back and make a difference in an area that you care about
  • Gain real experience of being a trustee of an established and well run arts charity, and a substantial understanding of the governance of an arts organisation
  • Develop skills such as financial literacy and strategic planning
  • Gain mentors from the CAS team and the Board, providing opportunities to familiarise the Young Trustee with the CAS and the trustee role, as well as to build relationships with Board members/staff members
  • An opportunity to develop into their role, and agreeing a set of measurable objectives for them to work flexibly towards achieving
  • Invitations to CAS programmes to enable the Young Trustee to have a wider insight into the work of the CAS
