We are looking for a project manager with a passion for arts engagement and cultural outreach to oversee the pilot tour of the Art Explora Mobile Museum (MuMo), coming to the UK in Spring 2023 (6 February – 30 April 2023).
MuMo is on a mission to make great art more accessible to everyone, everywhere - across towns, villages and remote locations. MuMo is a touring exhibition truck that stops in small towns and villages across the country, offering a programme of exhibition visits and educational, participatory art workshops in partnership with schools and community groups. The programme is aimed at younger audiences but welcomes all members of the community. Since its inception in 2011 in France, MuMo has travelled to 7 countries in Europe and Africa, bringing together 130,000 visitors. For its first ever UK tour, Art Explora and MuMo will partner with a major national art collection for a 12-week regional tour in the Liverpool and Merseyside area.
The project manager will be responsible for all the aspects of the tour’s operations which is a unique opportunity to be involved in a project at the crossroads of arts and education, and deeply embedded within local communities. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience planning and delivering cultural projects, events or exhibitions. You will also share our belief in increasing access to arts and culture, and in the value of creating opportunities for people, of all ages, to engage and participate in the arts.
To achieve this, you will have a proven track record in project management, excellent organisation and communications skills, and be skilled at building relationships at all levels – with schools, local authorities, collection and artistic partners, senior stakeholders, collaborators and supporters.
 
Key responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Planning the itinerary in partnership with the national collection partner: identifying, contacting, liaising and managing tour venues and regional project partners such as schools, community centres, youth centres, leisure centres, care homes, town councils, municipal authorities, etc.</li>
<li>Managing the logistics: liaising with the transport and insurance company, confirming locations and parking for the truck, ensuring all necessary administrative steps have been taken for a smooth and safe journey (event licence, security, Health &amp; Safety measures)</li>
<li>Managing budgets: ensuring that all costs and expenses are adequately budgeted and paid on time, that invoices are processed, and the project is delivered within the allocated budget</li>
<li>Identifying opportunities for in-kind partnerships (drawing material, venues for workshop etc)</li>
<li>Overseeing the timeline and project delivery in accordance with the set deadlines.</li>
<li>Managing production and timely delivery of all educational materials and the learning toolkit produced by an appointed arts educator, in collaboration with the collection partner</li>
<li>Liaising with schools and mediators on the briefings and use of the educational materials</li>
<li>Liaising with the collection partner on the planning and delivery of the exhibition (insurance, artwork transportation, security, installation and de-installation, interpretation materials)</li>
<li>Managing facilitators that will lead the visits: schedule their briefings, travel, food and accommodation, visiting and supporting them during the 8-week tour</li>
<li>Coordinating the communication and marketing campaign with the appointed PR agency, the collection partner and the appointed graphic designer and photographer: press release and preview, onsite branding material, exhibition booklet, video, photography, etc.</li>
</ul>
 
Knowledge, skills, experience
<ul>
<li>Experience planning and delivering cultural projects, events or exhibitions, in collaboration with museums, arts organisations or other cultural institutions</li>
<li>A highly organised, proactive and reliable individual, capable of managing stressful situations, complex logistics, multiple partnerships and tight deadlines</li>
<li>A proven track record of budget management and event coordination (an experience in fundraising is a plus)</li>
<li>A confident communicator (oral and writing), with an enthusiasm for building creative partnerships and capable of working with a wide range of senior stakeholders and partners</li>
<li>A good knowledge of cultural policies and current arts and cultural landscape</li>
</ul>
 
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
<ul>
<li>A good team spirit, and an ability to work flexibly and adapt as the project develops.</li>
<li>Ability to respond to challenges with diplomatic, flexible, persuasive and positive solutions and capacity to adapt to a busy environment, and changing or time sensitive situations.</li>
<li>Interest in contemporary and modern art, with a passion for engaging new audiences (a professional or volunteering experience in that field is a plus).</li>
</ul>

About the Mobile Museum
In Spring 2023, the Art Explora Mobile Museum will travel to the UK for a pilot tour of 12 weeks from 6 February until 30 April 2023. MuMo is a touring exhibition truck that stops in small towns and villages across the country, offering a programme of exhibition visits, and educational and participatory art workshops in partnership with schools and community groups. The programme is aimed at younger audiences but welcomes all members of the community. All groups are introduced to the exhibition by trained arts educators and are followed by creative workshops. At the end of the week, families, neighbours, and the local community are invited to visit the exhibition and view artworks made during the workshops. Exhibitions are multidisciplinary and can include painting, photography, drawing, video, sculpture, installation, ceramics, collage, inflatables and more. The exhibition includes historic and contemporary works of art by national and international artists on loan from a national art collection.

As we continue to grow our artistic output as part of Southampton’s producing theatre and cultural hub, we are seeking expressions of interest for directors and playwrights for productions and creative projects in 2023 and beyond at MAST Mayflower Studios.
As part of our creative approach, we shall recruit the majority of freelance creative and acting positions through open call outs in order to be accessible, fair and representative.

At this time, we are looking to connect and engage with a Director for a Spring Musical with our Youth Musical Theatre groups and Playwrights to work on multiple projects including a proposed T.I.E title in the Autumn 2023 term.

Rehearsals will take place weekly from mid-September 2022 with auditions taking place wk/c 19th September. Tech weeks commences Sunday 12th February 2023, with performances on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th (x2) February 2023.
The rest of the Creative team will be made up of internal staff and freelancers.
