The schools engagement team is a new team within the learning &amp; national partnerships directorate, focusing on the development and delivery of the NT’s Inspire strategy, an ambitious plan to widen the National Theatre’s support for drama and creative learning in schools across the UK.As one of two schools engagement project managers, you will work closely with the head of schools engagement, and the rest of the team to devise and lead a diverse, high-quality and inspiring programme of live and digitally delivered activity, exploring all aspects of theatre making and production for schools and teachers working across all educational phases from primary to further education. The programme is inspired by the full range of the NT’s work both on and off stage and involves both NT artists and creative teams and some of the UK’s most exciting theatre makers. This role will manage work at the National Theatre, in London and nationwide.The role will build strong relationships with schools, education partners and partner theatres to inform the development of the programme and will work closely with the wider Learning team and the NT Digital team on all aspects of the programme’s successful communication, delivery and evaluation. Responsibilities<ul><li>With the head of schools engagement, plan and develop schools engagement programmes, including the Bacchae Schools Tour, Drama Teacher Conference, National Theatre Collection Resources, Schools Matinees and Student Conference, building on the National Theatre’s existing programme of work across all educational phases</li><li>Build and maintain up to date knowledge of schools context, curriculum and needs, to inform the development and delivery of live events and workshops, teaching resources, training and professional development</li><li>Manage the detailed planning of the programme across the academic year, in collaboration with the learning operations team to ensure the programme is integrated into planning and production schedules</li><li>Work with the head of schools engagement and the digital team to develop and deliver projects and educational content for the NT Collection, NT Learning Hub and future digital education platforms and resources</li><li>Plan and develop activity linked to NT repertoire (Southbank, West End and UK Touring) with a clear focus on curriculum and school priorities</li></ul> Knowledge, skills and experience<ul><li>Good understanding and working knowledge of English and wider UK primary and&nbsp;secondary education systems, qualifications and alternative provision</li><li>Demonstrable project management on large scale arts education projects and&nbsp;&nbsp;organisational skills with delivery to budget and deadlines</li><li>Experience of developing education resources, including digital resources</li><li>Knowledge of contemporary theatre practice and performance, including work for&nbsp;&nbsp;young people &amp; new writing</li><li>Understanding of inclusive practice, participatory work and co-creation in school&nbsp;settings</li></ul>If that sounds like you, this may be the role for you! Schools engagement project manager (maternity cover)

The role is embedded within the New Work department and casts all workshops and play readings, dealing directly with actors, creatives, agents, and liaising closely with NT’s casting department. The position suits directors who would benefit from understanding how other creatives develop their projects. This is an administrative role where the resident director supports the activity of the New Work department, printing scripts, creating contact sheets and making general preparations for incoming work. ResponsibilitiesThe provision of casting and administrative assistance for the workshops, readings and other programmed activity, which includes:<ul><li>Casting all performers for workshops and readings; liaising with visiting artists, agents and NT staff, working closely with the casting department</li><li>Administratively assisting the deputy head of studio in preparing for workshops and readings as required, to include the creation of contact lists, copying scripts, and calling actors</li><li>Attending team meetings and planning meetings and supporting the day-to-day running of the department as required</li><li>Attending show meetings, seeing work and feeding back to the New Work department with show reports</li><li>Occasionally working as an assistant director on workshops as and when necessary</li><li>Occasionally directing workshop readings with writers on attachment as and when necessary</li><li>Support the National Theatre’s communications objectives by sharing information with your manager and colleagues as appropriate, whilst respecting confidentiality, so that you and your colleagues have all the information you need to perform your duties effectively</li><li>Always comply with and champion the National Theatre’s Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety policies</li><li>Contribute to the National Theatre’s ambition to create an inclusive environment for colleagues and visitors</li></ul> The successful candidate will have the following:&nbsp;<ul><li>Demonstrable experience casting artists from all different backgrounds, and a commitment to keeping performers from historically underrepresented backgrounds visible and valued in the casting process</li><li>A good working knowledge of actors from different disciplines and with different abilities, including those with established theatre careers who may be working in leading roles around the country</li><li>Excellent organisational skills including the ability to work calmly under pressure. Knowledge of how to prioritise, multitask and to deliver work accurately and with attention to detail while respecting confidentiality and acting with discretion</li><li>A commitment to being a theatre director, with experience of having directed professional productions in studio and fringe venues over a number of years accruing a demonstrable body of work (by professional, we mean having had a 2-3 week public run with a paid creative team and company)</li><li>Experience of working professionally as an assistant and/or associate director around the country</li></ul>If that sounds like you, this may be the role for you!
