About us
The Almeida exists to launch the next generation of British artists onto the world stage.
A small room with an international reputation, the Almeida began life as a literary and scientific society – complete with library, lecture theatre and laboratory. From the beginning, our building existed to investigate the world.
Today, we make brave new work that asks big questions: of plays, of theatre and of the world around us.
We bring together the most exciting artists to take risks; to provoke, inspire and surprise our audiences; to interrogate the present, dig up the past and imagine the future. Whether new work or reinvigorated classic, whether in our theatre, on the road or online, we make live art to excite, enliven and entertain.
The Almeida makes argument for theatre as an essential force in an increasingly fragmented society.
Working at and visiting the Almeida
We are committed to being a diverse and inclusive theatre, which means that we work towards reflecting that in everything we do.
We value all our staff, our performers and artists of all kinds, and our audiences. Respect for each other should be at the heart of the company, in what we do and how we undertake our work. We all share the goal of creating a safe and open creative space of equal opportunity.
Harassment, bullying or threatening behaviour is not acceptable.
Misuse of power is not acceptable.
Everyone who works with us should feel able to speak out and talk about concerns in confidence. Any concerns will be listened to and may be brought to your line manager, the General Manager or other member of the Senior Management team at any time.
Airing your concerns is better than letting things build up to become a more serious issue and talking doesn’t mean that you are starting a formal process.
These policies apply to all members of staff, and all freelance, creative and contract staff.
We ask everyone to take responsibility for helping to ensure that our values are carried through in everything that we do.
Everyone who works with us or visits us is expected to share in this belief and show it through behaviour towards others.
