Working at the BBC
Working at the BBC means that you can create and innovate in an inclusive environment while contributing to some of the world’s best loved content and our mission to inform, educate and entertain. Here we want everyone to feel like they belong and have equitable opportunities to do their best work, develop and progress in their career.
Every day we provide a unique, world-class portfolio of national and regional TV and radio, award-winning digital services and BBC World Services across 40 languages.
The BBC is for everyone – and should include everyone. Diversity and Inclusion is hardwired into everything that we do which is why it’s important to us to build teams that draw on the widest range of experiences, talent and ideas – reflecting both modern Britain and the world.
BBC Values
We have established a set of values for everyone working at the BBC. They represent the expectations we have for ourselves and each other, they guide our day-to-day decisions and the way we behave.
Our values are:
AUDIENCES are at the heart of everything we do
CREATIVITY is the lifeblood of our organisation
TRUST is the foundation of the BBC - we’re independent, impartial and truthful
We RESPECT each other - we’re kind, and we champion inclusivity
We are ACCOUNTABLE and deliver work of the highest quality
We are ONE BBC - we collaborate, learn and grow together
Diversity & Inclusion at the BBC
To ensure our content is inclusive and representative of all groups and communities, we must build teams that draw on the widest range of experiences, talent and ideas – reflecting both modern Britain and the world. Across the BBC, we have a range of dedicated and specialist staff networks that bring together people from under-represented backgrounds to network and help us make better-informed decisions.

BBC Embrace
Embrace is a staff-led network for BBC colleagues from Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority backgrounds. Our mission is to enrich the BBC by promoting a truly inclusive culture throughout the organisation, and to level the playing field by empowering our members to reach their full potential. The group holds events and panels providing resources for education and allies whilst also shining a spotlight on colleague achievements.
Our main objectives are:
- To encourage and support Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority staff to develop and achieve their full potential
- To bring Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority employees together by offering networking opportunities with both internal and external industry professionals
- To make a positive contribution to BBC policy development and implementation.
- To support the BBC in creating greater diversity both for workforce and portrayal.
Other Employee Networks at the BBC
BBC Embrace is just one of several employee networks that exist within the BBC. Our staff networks exist to encourage better understanding of the challenges and triumphs faced by our diverse workforce.
Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent Talent
As part of the BBC’s ambition to better reflect the population in its workforce and output, we’re dedicated to finding the best deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent talent to join the organisation. Our Extend Scheme is designed to ensure that people with any disability recognised by the Equality Act 2010 have priority access to reserved roles. And for all our roles we are a Disability Confident Employer.
