About us
Hurst is an independently owned and run non-fiction press based in London but publishing globally. We produce approximately 90 new titles per year in the fields of history, politics, sociology, war studies, and religion with particular strength in our lists covering African, Asian, East European, and Middle East Studies.
Although we are a small indie publisher, our titles have been shortlisted or won the following international awards: Orwell Prize (UK), PEN/Jean Stein Book Award (USA), Stanford Dolman Travel Book of the Year Award (UK), Pushkin House Book Prize (UK), the Bread and Roses Award (UK), British Academy Book Prize for Global Cultural Understanding (UK), Los Angeles Times Book Prize (USA), James Beard Award (USA), Shaughnessy Cohen Prize for Political Writing (Canada), and many others.
