About us
SET is a contemporary arts organisation and registered charity that transforms vacant buildings across London into spaces for experimental culture, collective making, and community.
Founded by three artists in 2016, SET has grown into a series of city-wide centres, shaped and sustained by the communities who inhabit them. Everyone who contributes to SET – Associate Studio Members, the team, local artists and residents – is part of what SET is and does.
At the heart of our work is a year-round public programme, co-created with artists and communities across London. It spans exhibitions, performances, workshops, talks, residencies, film, music, and social projects, with a strong focus on early- and mid-career artists and underrepresented practices.
SET also provides some of London’s most affordable artist studios, supporting over 1,000 artists across a wide range of disciplines. Income from our studios is reinvested into programming and operations, helping keep space for culture accessible and sustainable.
Our centres include SET Social (an arts and social members club), SET 91 (our in-house curated gallery), and SET Ceramics (studio and learning spaces), alongside a wider network of studios and project spaces.
As a charity, SET advocates for artists and communities by working to protect affordable workspace and expand access to culture across the city.
