Americanisation and special sales designer

Salary: The starting salary range for this role will be between £32,000 and £37,000 depending on previous experience, job title and suitability for the role.
Contract: This is a full-time hybrid role working three days a week from our office near Tower Bridge in London.
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Americanisation and Special Sales designer for our award-winning mono and four colour lists.
This role is dedicated exclusively to Americanising titles for our US list and creating special editions of some of our best-selling books, ready for the international market. Nosy Crow is a multi-award winning, independent children’s publishing company with operations in both the UK and the USA. We make child-focused, parent-friendly children’s books for ages 0-12.
The successful candidate will report to the Creative Director with line management from the Heads of Fiction and Non-Fiction. This is an opportunity to be part of an exciting, highly creative and collaborative team in a vibrant and evolving publishing environment, working on a diverse range of titles.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working on a variety of projects and subject matter, and is eager to contribute to the success of Nosy Crow’s award-winning publishing program. The ideal candidate will report to the Creative Director, bringing a strong design portfolio, excellent organisational skills, and a real passion for children’s book design to the role.
The role
- Typesetting – Working closely with our Editorial teams in the US and UK to Americanise both frontlist and backlist titles, ready for publication.
- Artworking – Applying your technical print knowledge and eye for detail to prepare mono and four colour book files for print, from file creation to pre-press.
- Creativity – Using your design experience to generate commercial US editions of Nosy Crow’s UK frontlist titles, including redesigning, revising and updating covers, revising, reformatting and updating backlist titles, creating new and inventive format ideas, and designing exclusive packaging for special sales.
- Project Coordination – Successfully executing the design of multiple projects simultaneously and being the UK design department’s primary point of contact for all US design queries.
Key responsibilities
- Ensuring quality designs and creative consistency across the US list.
- Working closely with our UK in-house design team, our editors in both the UK and the US, and our UK production team to keep multiple projects on track.
- Providing necessary sales material for the US sales team in a timely manner.
- Coordinating multiple projects simultaneously and adhering to key deadlines.
- Contributing ideas and creating design solutions for special sales and proprietary editions.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Proven experience in children’s book design, with a strong portfolio showcasing a range of design projects, ideally with experience working on both mono and 4-colour titles.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Exceptional organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
