
Assistant editor, Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack

Contract: Full-time, permanent position
Salary: £30,000 per annum
This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Editor to join the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack team, working on perhaps the most famous sports book in the world, published annually since 1864.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated and possess an excellent attention to detail, a love of cricket, and high standards of literacy and numeracy.
The role will involve some work with an XML database, but there is significant scope for the right person to make their mark on the Almanack, as well as the opportunity to write reports on major matches.
The role reports to the Editor and Co-Editor of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack and sits within the Special Interest division of Bloomsbury Publishing.
Responsibilities
- Editing and fact-checking content
- Inputting content and corrections
- Writing for various sections of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack
- Providing ideas for the reporting of the game through words and figures
- Selecting, obtaining, editing and captioning photographs
- Helping the editorial team maintain Wisden’s social media presence
- Helping the Wisden’s statistical editor with the handling of scorecards, averages, records, etc.
- Providing administrative support to the Wisden team
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Excellence in written English, a keen eye for detail and a confidence in the world of numbers
- Demonstrable love of cricket
- Excellent communication within and beyond the small Wisden team
- Strong organisational skills and an ability to meet strict deadlines
- Some experience of working in XML is desirable, but not essential
Additional information
The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Monday and Tuesday
This position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme.
