
Assistant policy officer

Salary: £32,550 per annum
We are looking for an assistant policy officer to join the National Theatre communications team.
This role combines administrative coordination, event support, stakeholder engagement, and public policy research. The post holder will play a key role in advancing the National Theatre’s public policy and advocacy objectives, ensuring effective delivery of projects, communications, and relationships that support our strategic goals. The post holder will work as part of the Policy team within the Communications department.
Responsibilities
- Support delivery of stakeholder engagement events, including Press Nights, panel discussions and roundtable events that effectively engage policymakers.
- Draft invitations, letters and briefings to support engagement with policymakers and decision makers across a range of organisations.
- Maintain and develop up-to-date stakeholder mapping across relevant government departments and other public/private sector organisations.
- Develop strong relationships across internal teams to support delivery of objectives.
- Manage a shared team inbox, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional responses to all enquiries.
- Monitor and report on public policy issues relevant to the National Theatre and the wider sector.
- Support the Associate Director of Policy and Senior Policy Manager in the effective delivery of their responsibilities, as required.
- Collaborate effectively with other teams within the Communications department to ensure opportunities to incorporate policy messaging are identified and maximised.
- Any other duties as reasonably required.
Knowledge, skills & experience
- Collaborative and strong networker, able to build relationships internally and externally to support delivery of objectives.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences.
- Able to prioritise well, manage projects simultaneously and respond quickly and comprehensively to requests.
- Strong administrative skills, with experience managing calendars, shared inboxes, and spreadsheets and strong attention to detail.
- An interest in achieving change through influencing public policy and knowledge of the issues facing the subsidised arts sector and the National Theatre specifically.
