
Assistant product manager
Salary range: £30,000-£33,000 per annum, depending on experience
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Product Innovation team in Bloomsbury Digital Resources as an Assistant Product Manager.
This Assistant Product Manager role sits within the Humanities and Social Sciences team in Product Innovation and will support the Product Manager in developing and managing products throughout their lifecycle, as well as various opportunities to lead on platform development and research. The role will encompass a range of subject hub platforms, from History and Theology to Music, Food and Education studies, and requires close working with editorial, technology and customer-facing teams from across the division.
The main purpose of this role is to manage products and platforms from Bloomsbury’s Academic digital portfolio, ensuring that they continue to meet market needs, through delivering timely product launches, content updates, and functional enhancements.
Key responsibilities
Content & Product Management
- Lead the setup and update of digital products, including uploading and testing content.
- Manage relationships with content partners to source and refine metadata and materials.
- Oversee content conversion and indexing processes, working with internal teams and external suppliers.
- Maintain and improve product pages and platform structures.
Platform Development & Support
- Own and champion specific platforms and products across the business.
- Support internal teams (Sales, Marketing, Customer Service) with product-related queries.
- Monitor and report bugs, working with developers to resolve issues.
- Manage platform design, navigation, and copy updates.
- Track and maintain product data and bundle structures.
Feature & Functionality Enhancements
- Help define and roll out new features, content types, and taxonomies.
- Collaborate with UX and Discovery teams to ensure platforms meet user needs and industry standards (e.g. accessibility).
- Run usage reports and contribute insights to product team meetings.
Process Improvement
- Identify and implement improvements to workflows and systems.
- Work with Editorial to define product requirements and support budgeting.
- Manage project schedules and coordinate with suppliers.
Cross-Team Collaboration & Representation
- Present ideas and raise issues in team meetings.
- Support Sales in client meetings and demos.
- Train and support colleagues across departments.
- Represent Bloomsbury at external meetings and conferences.
Team Development
- Assist in onboarding and training new team members.
- Support recruitment efforts for the product team.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Experience of leading projects and working independently.
- Quick to learn new systems and processes.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working with digital content and platforms (XML, CMS; HTML a plus).
- Excellent communication and time-management skills.
- Passionate about digital product management and eager to grow in the field.
Additional information
The role is a full-time, permanent position.
The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP or at our Oxford office, Kemp House, Chawley Park, Cumnor Hill, Oxford OX2 9PH on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Wednesdays and Thursdays.
This position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme.
