Salary: £27,000 - £33,000 per annum, depending on experience

Reporting to: This role reports to the managing director

Hours: 5 days – 37.5 hours a week Monday – Friday. Contracted hours are 9.30am – 6pm with one hour for lunch .

Location: The Fane office is based in Farringdon, London, with the option to work from home up to 40% of the time. This role is also expected to spend time at the Fane Warehouse in North London.

Fane is a leader in the production and curation of spoken word events, bringing the most exciting names in culture and entertainment to audiences around the world. We programme over 500 live and online events each year. We also run LoveMyRead, the home of book gifting online.

A significant part of what Fane does involves selling books, whether for consumer events, corporate engagements, or our e-commerce platform, LoveMyRead. We are seeking a book operations manager to lead all book-related activities within the company.

As the book operations manager, you will oversee and manage the operations and logistics process for Live tours across the Fane Group, relationship management of bookstores and publishers across the UK, distribution from the Fane warehouse, curation of the LoveMyRead website, and manage the warehouse team when it comes to distribution and stock maintenance.


Main duties

  • Maintain computerised administration for all book sales for the Fane Group for consumer and corporate events
  • Liaise with sales departments at multiple publishers on terms, delivery, and delivery logistics
  • Support the UK literary landscape by commissioning bookstores across the UK to work at Fane Group events
  • Liaise with the Live team and publishers with regards to terms for live events and bookselling at live events
  • Work with other promoters on live tours and events as an external bookselling partner
  • Ensure that, where necessary, all stock is signed and delivered safely to the Fane warehouse for distribution purposes
  • Manage the curation of books sold via all e-commerce platforms, working across promotions of stock regularly with the Marketing department
  • Analyse with the marketing department how to best promote book sales alongside live tours and one-off shows
  • Keep Fane’s e-commerce platform updated to ensure the company uses signed stock effectively
  • Book and manage freelancers for live bookselling opportunities across the Fane Live programme.
  • Attend events regularly to oversee the running of the book
  • Distribution/bookselling at live events
  • Liaise with venues to organise the distribution of books for live events
  • Work closely with the Customer Service team on all customer queries regarding books at live events
  • Oversee and manage the Fane Warehouse and the Book Distribution Coordinator to organise all returns, inventory management, and postage of books for the Fane Online programme
  • Maintain all finances and invoicing for the book department

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Excel
  • Experience of management

Desirable

  • Understanding of the publishing industry. It would be useful but not essential if you have previous work experience within the sales team at a Publishing house, or in an events role at a bookstore.
  • Experience of line managing is desirable, but not essential
  • Comfortable with physically demanding work
