Help shape the future of academic publishing by building and expanding a dynamic philosophy list that highlights both traditional thought and emerging ideas.

Bloomsbury is a leading international publisher with strengths in trade, children’s, professional and academic publishing. We are currently looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced commissioning editor to contribute to the growth of our Academic Philosophy list. Our list publishes over 100 titles a year and comprises of high quality and cutting-edge scholarship alongside texts and resources for students. We publish philosophical traditions from around the world and cater to an audience engaging critically with contemporary thought. This is an excellent opportunity to join our team of editors and play a part in the expansion of our publishing programme. The successful candidate will join a friendly team based in our central London offices.


Responsibilities

  • To research new product lines and markets in Ancient and Renaissance philosophy; Ethics and Applied Ethics; Italian philosophy
  • To identify, manage and secure new book resources for researchers and students
  • Work with authors, volume editors and series editors to ensure a high standard of author care
  • Work closely with editorial, marketing, sales, production and digital teams

  • Some direct experience of commissioning and managing book projects


Additional information

The role is part-time for 4 days per week and a 12-month fixed-term position starting December 2025. The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Wednesdays and Thursdays.
