Salary: £38,995.65

Hours: 35 hours per week. Although additional hours may be necessary to fulfil the post’s requirements.

 

Support creative and technical teams in delivering outstanding productions at the National Theatre.

We are looking for a Deputy Production Manager to join the National Theatre Production and Technical Team on a 22-month Fixed Term Contract.

This is a key role within the NT Production Office. You will work with the Production Managers to ensure the smooth delivery of NT productions to the highest standard at the Southbank site.

Working on projects of all scales, you will ensure best use of the NT's systems and resources for the realisation of the technical elements of allocated shows.

You may be required to “act up" as Production Manager as required and when mutually agreed, on projects specifically identified by the Production Managers and the Production and Technical Director.

 

Responsibilities

  • To work alongside the Production Manager and Production Designers to ensure that the process towards Draft Design/ White Card creates a design that is within the parameters set for the project.
  • To support the accurate interpretation of the final design to ensure precise analysis of feasibility.
  • To work with the Production Manager to produce a detailed, fully deliverable budget, risk assessment and schedule.
  • To assist in monitoring the expenditure, progress chasing the manufacture, and clarifying any modification of all areas of the design.
  • To take an active role in the management of fit-ups, attend technical and other rehearsals at NT.
  • To assist in achieving Theatre Green Book standards regarding environmental sustainability.
  • To fulfil the role of "Production Manager" on allocated projects when it has been mutually agreed with the Production Managers and Head of Production that it would be appropriate.
  • To support the NT's communications objectives by sharing information with your manager, teams/colleagues as appropriate, whilst respecting confidentiality, so that you and your colleagues have all the information you need to perform your duties to the highest standards.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Have a demonstrable record in the delivery of professional productions at the highest artistic and technical level including experience as a Production Manager or Deputy Production Manager.
  • Dedicated and committed with excellent focus and organisational skills, with the ability to demonstrate the application of excellent project management skills across several projects simultaneously.
  • A good working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and their application to the theatre production process.
  • Budget literate with awareness of latest techniques and relevant regulations as applied to the preparation and staging of major productions in repertoire.
  • An excellent and confident communicator, who is comfortable working with both creative and technical teams.
  • The ability to demonstrate and communicate enthusiasm and professionalism in all aspects of this highly demanding job.
  • Interest and knowledge in sustainability and awareness of the Theatre Green Book.
  • Able to demonstrate a recognisable level of credibility within the industry.
  • IT and AutoCAD literate.
  • A degree in Technical Theatre and/or equivalent professional experience within a theatre environment.
