You'll track trends, shape tone and style, and help us engage new audiences with high-quality, trusted reporting – and help with the day-to-day running of our major accounts. If you're creative, collaborative and passionate about digital storytelling, this is your chance to help shape the Guardian's presence on the world's biggest platforms.

  • When deputising for the social platforms editor, you will be responsible for overseeing the day's editorial social media content off-platform focusing on Instagram and TikTok
  • As directed by the social platforms editor, you will create video, written and visual content for any of the Guardian's social platforms as required (primarily Instagram and TikTok) with the aim of engaging and informing a global audience
  • Pitch stories to the social platforms editor and contributing towards the planning, production, publishing and archiving of content across social channels
  • Work with colleagues to devise best practice, visual style, and tone of voice for social promotion, posts and videos

Knowledge, skills & experience

  • Strong writing skills with a flair for summarising long, complex information into engaging and concise copy
  • Understanding of how to make text, photos, graphics and video work together visually on social media
  • Experience working with all major social media platforms, underpinned by a nuanced understanding of each platform's unique ecosystem, and how to optimise content performance for each platform
  • Understanding of the specific needs of social media audiences
  • Substantial experience editing video and producing and editing videos for social media from start to finish using Adobe Premiere
  • Ideally, you'll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role
