Get practical, on-the-floor experience assisting with set dressing, props and studio shoots on Hollyoaks.

Since producing the now legendary Brookside, Lime Pictures has gone on to deliver some of TV’s most iconic programmes. Our shows cover a wide range of genres from reality to scripted drama. For over 30 years we’ve pioneered new formats, using TV not only for on-screen storytelling but as an off-screen platform to reach younger audiences. Our shows have also won countless awards including the Double Daytime Emmy winning Free Rein for Netflix, Multi award winning Hollyoaks and of course, the BAFTA winning reality series The Only Way is Essex for ITV.

This opportunity will give you an insight into both the dressing and shoot areas of the Hollyoaks Design team, along with with an overview of the full department. You will spend 6 months as an assistant runner for the dressing department where you will gain experience in the preparation, dressing and de-rigging of sets both on-site and on location. Within this period you will also spend some time with the buyers and graphics department. You will then spend 6 months on the shoot shadowing the art director, standby props and stagehand gaining experience of the art department requirements on the studio floor.

Key activities

  • Shadowing and providing general support to the Design team both on shoot and in the office
  • Assisting with administrative jobs in the Design office
  • Assisting the Set Dresser with dressing the sets
  • Assisting with rigging and de-rigging the sets
  • Providing creative ideas
  • Some manual handling
  • Helping with the distribution of props

What you'll learn

By the end of the placement, the Intern will have a great understanding of how all areas of the Design department work and the different avenues available for a career path within that team. They will develop their time management skills and have an understanding of the deadlines and time constraints different roles adhere to. They will understand what goes into rigging, de-rigging and dressing a set, as well as develop an understanding and be able to process information from call sheets and production schedules. They should finish their internship with a good idea of which area is most suited to their skills and will be ready to apply for entry level roles within the industry, such as a Design Department Runner.
