Bloomsbury Children’s Design department are looking for a highly organised, motivated person to join our team.

This supportive role is key to the smooth operation of our design department and requires a ‘can do ‘positive person, with good time management who will work with all the designers in the team. A confident communicator who will also liaise with other teams across our children’s publishing business.

The role will report to the Creative Director, Children’s & Education.

Responsibilities

  • Predominantly an administrative position, the role also requires some design work: Administrative tasks
  • Biblio admin, updating schedules statuses, design costs and the loading of front cover images (training provided)
  • Meeting organisation, preparing agenda, cover status grid and minuting of weekly cover meetings
  • Updating sales material folder with covers and spreads
  • Image supply and admin for book fair print and on-line catalogues
  • On boarding freelances
  • Drafting illustrator contracts Design tasks
  • Handling re-print requests across our children’s publishing
  • Converting final covers into audio covers
  • Converting existing book formats to paperback and board book formats
  • Creating pack shots
  • Creating holding covers

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • A degree (BA or equivalent) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant subject such as graphic design, publishing design, illustration, or equivalent professional experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft word, Excel and Acrobat
  • Proficient in all creative suite programmes: InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Strong, clear, confident communicator
  • Practical, highly organised and committed
  • Proactive, helpful and time efficient

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Mondays and Tuesdays. This position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme.
