Profile is a thriving independent company publishing a diverse range of titles on our market-leading imprints Profile Books, Serpent’s Tail, Viper and Souvenir Press. We are the Independent Publisher of the Year 2024. 

We are looking for an outstanding designer to work on prestigious and bestselling books across our lists.

This is a full-time permanent position, reporting to our Art Director and working with departments throughout the company, to produce work that is beautiful, innovative, market-aware and responsive to briefs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design covers for print, e-books and audiobooks
  • Prepare visuals for presentation at covers meetings
  • Progress visuals to approval and artwork stage
  • Liaise with Production and other departments to ensure timely delivery of materials and assets
  • Manage your own admin and contribute to that of the Design department

 

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • An excellent portfolio demonstrating creative flair, versatility and problem-solving
  • Passionate about design in general and book design in particular. 
  • Experience designing book covers would be welcome. However, we will also consider applications from outstanding recent graduates and freelance designers
  • Highly visual, well organised, with excellent advocacy skills and the ability to multi-task whilst maintaining a keen attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
  • A good communicator, resilient and able to work collaboratively with others
  • You will be proficient in Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. A working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator is desirable but not essential. An art or graphic design degree or similar is desirable
  • Enthusiasm for books is essential
