Create and curate engaging website content for one of the world’s most prestigious literary prizes, celebrating the Booker Prize's books and rich history.
The Booker Prize Foundation is looking for a digital content executive to be responsible for producing, publishing and updating a wide range of content to our website. This content will cover practical information and features about our latest prizes (the Booker Prize, International Booker Prize and Children’s Booker Prize), as well as features and page updates relating to the hundreds of books that have been nominated for our prizes since 1969.
The digital content executive will work closely with and report to the director of content and the deputy head of editorial. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, updating, repurposing and improving our substantial catalogue of existing evergreen digital content, from archival information to in-depth long reads, reading guides, reading lists, competitions and quizzes.
They will also play an integral role in the creation of engaging new website content, taking a hands-on responsibility for producing and launching this content for maximum impact and reach. They will be involved in the entire publishing process, from ideation to execution, including writing articles, briefing designers and building pages in the CMS. This role requires an individual with a thorough understanding of best practice in digital content as well as how to nurture and represent a high-profile and respected cultural brand.
Responsibilities
- Report to the director of content, publishing engaging website content, from practical information to original features
- Assist the director of content and deputy head of editorial in updating and improving existing evergreen website content
- Assist the director of content and deputy head of editorial in creating new website content, including writing copy and briefing designers
- Take delivery of material, editing copy as required and building pages in the CMS to the highest standard
- Work closely with editorial colleagues to identify and prioritise content around our current and previous prizes, to ensure they reach the widest possible international audience
- Work with editorial colleagues to improve existing content and generate new ideas, including for content that supports and champions our charitable mission and values
- Maintain the Booker Prizes’ digital image library within the CMS, uploading and labelling images
- Ensure all digital activity is on brand and consistent, and adheres to the organisation’s style guide
Knowledge, skills & experience
The successful candidate will:
- Have demonstrable experience as either a digital content producer, editor, writer, or all three, ideally in a journalism, book publishing or cultural institution environment
- Have experience of using CMS systems
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Be organised and reliable with excellent attention to detail, and will be able to work calmly under pressure, especially when working to tight deadlines
- Be a self-starter who can work on their own initiative as well as collaboratively within a team, and with third parties or external individuals/companies
- Be able to prioritise and handle multiple simultaneous tasks
- Have a good knowledge of the Booker Prizes and a passion for contemporary fiction
- Experience with SEO best practice, image editing software (e.g. Photoshop), and other digital tools (e.g. Jotform, Mailchimp and quiz-making tools) is a bonus
