Join DK’s sales or marketing teams for hands-on experience promoting bestselling illustrated non-fiction books.

We’re DK (Dorling Kindersley), the biggest publisher of illustrated non-fiction in the world. We make books covering everything: travel, gardening, cookery, history, children's stories… you name it, we’ve probably got a book on it!

Do you love talking about your favourite books? Are you a natural communicator with a passion for brands? From historical deep-dives to stunning travel guides, we believe every book has a story to tell – and a market to find. Join us for a two-week work experience in our Sales or Marketing teams, where you’ll learn how we build brands and reach new audiences. If you’re obsessed with books and curious about how we create the “buzz” around a new release, we want to hear from you! If any, or all, of these things sound like you, and you would love to spend two weeks (15th - 26th June 2026) with us, then The DK Experience, our remote programme, might be the perfect match for you!

As much as we’d like to, high demand means we’re unable to offer everyone a place and we’ll be in contact to let you know if you have been randomly selected this time. We will not contact the unsuccessful candidates, if you have not heard from us by 27th May 2026 then we don’t have a place for you on this occasion, however please do look out for our next placement.

Where are you from?

The programme requires no degree or previous publishing experience and aims to open the doors of our industry to participants from underrepresented regions, communities and backgrounds.

Publishing is traditionally very London-centric and people from London or the Home Counties (Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Berkshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Sussex) or who are based in these regions, have traditionally been advantaged in gaining access to the industry.

This programme is instead for anyone originally from, or currently living, in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and parts of England outside London and the Home Counties. Please do not apply if you are currently living in, or originally from, London or the Home Counties (If you are from London, we do work closely with LDN and they may have programmes which might be more suitable for you.

Who are you?

You need to be above 18 years old to apply. You’ll also come from an experience or background that is currently underrepresented in publishing. This could include, but is not limited to, coming from a socio-economically marginalised background, being of Black, Asian or minority ethnic heritage, having a disabled and/or neurodiverse experience or living with a long-term health condition, or belonging to an LGBTQ+ community.

What will you be doing?

This exciting opportunity will be completely remote. All you need is a computer, wifi connection, the right to work in the UK and to be able to commit to two weeks’ full-time work.

  • We’ll be taking you behind the scenes of our publishing house and introducing you to all the different areas of the industry.
  • While you will be placed in either a Sales or Marketing team, you’ll also have the opportunity to learn about all the other areas of our company.
  • You’ll attend campaign meetings, try your hand at a variety of promotional and market research tasks, and get involved in a fun group project with other people on the placement.

And along with this engaging experience, you’ll be paid the National Minimum Wage.

Please only apply via the link found by clicking Apply. We will not be able to accept applications by any other source.

DK is committed to building a diverse workforce that reflects the varied communities that read our books across the world. We encourage applications from all individuals, regardless of age, religion, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexuality or social background.

DK is proud to announce that we have adopted The Halo Code.

We welcome and encourage applications from candidates who are under-represented in the creative industries.

Please make sure that you state in your application that you found this role via Creative Access.
