Help bring stories to life that inspire and engage young audiences through exciting theatre workshops and performances. If you have lived experience of forced displacement and a passion for creativity and storytelling, this could be the role for you.

Good Chance and Theatre Royal Plymouth are partnering to offer a creative and supportive placement for someone with experience of forced displacement, to join our team for two days a week over three months. This role is part of our commitment to creating inclusive opportunities in the arts and supporting new voices in early years theatre, and is part of Good Chance's Stage Door programme.

You will work closely with our lead practitioner on our early year’s theatre projects, helping to deliver playful, imaginative, and engaging experiences for young children and their families, and in schools.

Tiny Tales is our early years project, taking place at the theatre and in schools. It promotes an earlier enjoyment of books and reading through creative engagement. Through song, movement, props and much more, little ones will engage their imagination and steer the storytelling whilst building language, social and performance skills in a fun, welcoming environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the lead practitioner in planning and delivering early years theatre sessions
  • Help set up and pack down creative spaces for workshops and performances
  • Engage with children and families during sessions in a warm and welcoming way
  • Contribute ideas and creative input to the development of activities
  • Assist with basic administrative or organisational tasks related to the project

Who we’re looking for

We welcome applications from individuals who:

  • Are from a refugee or asylum-seeking background with lived experience of forced displacement
  • Are interested in theatre, storytelling, or working with young children
  • Are reliable, enthusiastic, and open to learning
  • Enjoy working as part of a team and supporting others
  • Are confident speakers with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people
  • Do not need previous professional experience in theatre – just a passion for creativity and community

Support provided

  • A named mentor from our team to support you throughout the placement
  • A mentor and peer learning opportunities with Good Chance
  • A welcoming and inclusive environment where your voice is valued
  • A small budget is available for professional development opportunities during the engagement, including training, tickets for theatre shows, attendance at conferences etc
