Are you brimming with ideas and ready to work on books with some of the biggest names in pop culture? Do you spot trends before they hit the shelves – and know how to turn them into bestsellers?

Bonnier Books UK is looking for a talented and highly creative editor to join our license and trend-led imprint, Studio Press. Studio is the home of numerous best-selling Disney, Marvel and Star Wars titles for all ages from pre-school to adult, as well as a range of trend-led pop culture books, plus the best-selling Ultimate Football Heroes series.

The successful candidate will project manage and creatively guide the development of books with some of the biggest licenses in the business, ensuring that all titles are produced to an exceptional editorial quality. As part of a supportive and friendly team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the programme through new ideas and acquisitions.

We are looking for an exceptional editor with good knowledge of pop culture trends and the licensed books market, and who is looking to develop their commissioning skills. You’ll be creative, flexible, fast-moving and possess the fantastic communication and project management skills needed to work on a diverse, dynamic list. You will also need solid editing and writing skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues both internally and outside the business.


Key responsibilities

  • Originate, develop, research, copy-edit, proofread and sign-off on a wide range of books (predominantly full-colour illustrated licensed and pop culture books for the UK, US and international co-edition markets) across different formats and novelties to make the best product possible
  • Editorially guide and coordinate the books in line with the editorial and creative briefs, making sure all files are coordinated through the correct approval workflow for the team
  • Make sure all files are editorially accurate and produced to the required quality during all stages of development
  • Ensure that all Studio Press books are produced to house style and fulfil the in-house brief
  • Research and suggest ideas for the future publishing list, showing awareness of marketplace and trends not just in the UK but also in the US and in key co-edition markets around the world (Asia and Europe)


Qualifications and Experience

  • A creative mindset and genuine interest in writing, layout and design
  • An advanced understanding of the technical requirements of full-colour co-edition publishing
  • An advanced understanding of formats, age-ranges and subject matters
  • An advanced understanding of the Editorial Process and InDesign
  • Comfortable with processes, systems and spreadsheets
  • Strong copy-editing and proofreading skills
  • A good understanding of the marketplace and our target audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills
  • A commercial thinker, with great attention to detail and insightful organizer
  • A good role model with a positive, can-do attitude
