Be part of the editorial team behind a wide range of commercial and literary fiction.

We were created over three decades ago to deliver the brightest and best entertainment. Story – real and imagined – lies at the heart of everything for us. We delight in seeking out storytellers and story lovers everywhere. We're serious about keeping people entertained and believe our books should be devoured, not left on the shelf.

Headline is a division of Hachette, one of the largest publishing groups in the UK, and publishes some of the biggest names in fiction, including Maggie O'Farrell, Martina Cole, Victoria Hislop, Jill Mansell, Patrick Gale, Dorothy Koomson and Deborah Harkness, and is proud to publish the books that immerse, entertain, and grip their readers. Over the last couple of years we have launched an array of exciting new voices that include Bobby Palmer, Bolu Babalola, Alex Hay and Amy Twigg.

What you'll be doing

  • The successful candidate will provide administrative support to editors on Tinder Press and Headline Review who publish across a range of general and literary fiction, as well as the wider fiction editorial team as required.
  • You will be expected to oversee the desk editing of titles by briefing freelance copy editors and proofreaders, read and report on manuscripts, master the systems and processes that go into making the finished book, create metadata, take meeting minutes and liaise with authors and agents.

Who we are looking for

  • The successful candidate will be a passionate reader of fiction, as well as a highly organised individual with an ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Previous publishing experience is not required, but applicants should have excellent spelling and grammar and a sharp eye for detail, along with the ability to write good copy.
  • You will be an instrumental part of the publishing team, so strong communication skills are a must, as well as an ability to work well under pressure.
