We’re offering an exciting opportunity to play a key role in content acquisition and product development within Bloomsbury Digital Resources (BDR). As an editorial assistant in our digital department, you’ll provide essential administrative and editorial support to help drive the growth of our digital portfolio across both the humanities and social sciences (HSS) and visual and performing arts (V&PA) teams.
This role requires a highly organised, proactive individual with excellent time management and prioritisation skills. You’ll need to be adaptable, collaborative, and confident in communicating with internal stakeholders and external partners. While primarily administrative, this position is vital to the success of BDR and offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with digital publishing products and business models.
Responsibilities
- Support product development: support editorial acquisition teams across portfolios to commission and develop digital products, conduct market research, and compile title lists and metadata
- Manage rights and contracts: oversee contracts, rights clearance, and royalty administration, ensuring accurate data entry and compliance with licensing requirements
- Support initiatives: assist with projects led by senior leadership and act as a product champion to promote engagement and enthusiasm internally and externally
- Coordinate editorial systems: maintain editorial records and serve as the departmental lead for workflow systems such as Biblio, BDR Wiki, and AI Taskforce
Knowledge, skills & experience
- Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritise, and remain calm under pressure
- Experience managing small to medium-sized projects
- Detail-oriented with a solutions-focused mindset
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for both internal and external interactions
- Proactive, positive attitude with a willingness to learn
- Interest in digital publishing; experience in academic publishing is a plus
- Ability to self-manage workload and collaborate effectively within a team
- Solid administrative experience is desirable
Additional information
The role is a full-time, permanent position. The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Wednesday and Thursday.
This position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and to establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free rental deposit to support securing somewhere to live. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and will be paid back over 2 years.
