Passionate about fashion and photography? Looking for your first step into book publishing?

We are looking for a well-organised, enthusiastic and self-motivated Editorial Assistant to work with our Fashion and Photography teams on a wide range of tasks, from arranging meetings and taking minutes to helping with the preparation of sales materials. No previous publishing experience is required as you will be fully trained. You may have a degree in the humanities, but more important to the role is a willingness to learn, common sense and clear thinking, attention to detail, good communication skills (written and oral) and enthusiasm.


Responsibilities

  • Requesting, sending out and organising signatures of author and photographer agreements
  • Keeping track of and posting complimentary author copies, as well as booking general deliveries and collections
  • Uploading metadata and organising book materials
  • Financial administrative tasks including tracking and organizing author payments, processing invoices and drafting purchase orders
  • Utilising spreadsheets and office systems to proactively anticipate missing or late invoices, author copies, payments and other book-related paperwork – and to chase these up accordingly
  • Helping to prepare and proofread editorial materials, such as for sales presentations and book fairs, keying in proofreading changes, and generating PDFs.
  • Taking minutes in meetings, including those with important external partners
  • Liaising across teams, departments and T&H’s international offices, as well as external parties, to assist with meeting goals and deadlines
  • Assisting with reviewing and declining unsolicited submissions company-wide.


Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experience of office and administrative work
  • Superb organisation and time management
  • Ability to be proactive, multi-task and prioritize effectively
  • Exceptional attention to detail and professionalism
  • Intermediate level of MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Familiarity with InDesign would be a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and command of English spelling and grammar
  • Some commercial acumen and a desire to learn more about publishing
  • Copywriting and proofreading skills is desirable, with an appetite for deepening these skills
  • Familiarity with at least one foreign language would be an advantage
  • An interest in both our Fashion and Photography lists.
