Contract: This is a permanent staff position reporting to WhyNow’s Head of Production.

WhyNow is a media company dedicated to championing the very best emerging and established talent within arts, culture, and journalism. We have a passionate and creative team who work across social platforms, music, TV, podcasts, video, and journalism to bring users unique and engaging content and stories. We make money through advertising, sponsorship, and e-commerce/merchandise. Our titles beyond GBS include Film Stories and Rock Sounds. Our clients extend from Huel to The Times to Tina Turner among many others.

We are looking for an individual to lead our team in developing, producing, and delivering weekly videos across all GBS social handles. The applicant should be steeped in the ways of YouTube, with a clear vision of what works on the platform. Equally, this individual should be passionate about all social media platforms - working to provide a positive and uplifting experience for users. Applying the latest innovations in video, we expect this individual to demonstrate the skills required to produce compelling content at volume yet cost-effectively. We need a leader who will be able to inspire and mentor a team of producers. Equally, the EP will coordinate with the commercial parts of the operation so that money can be made.

 

Responsibilities

  • Working with the GBS editorial team, develop and deliver powerful visual stories that will resonate with audiences combining creativity and an understanding of audience metrics to develop an output plan that will grow viewership and engagement.
  • Create a forward planning calendar providing a plan for regular output planning across all major social handles in alignment with the Head of Channel Management & Marketing.
  • Oversee a team of five in the day-to-day operations of delivering on the creative and production plan.
  • Implement innovations in video production using the latest technologies to increase quality and productivity.
  • Oversee a network of stringers/freelancers to deliver original programming from all over the world. Ensure that the quality of this content matches the quality of the in-house team.
  • Work with the commercial and sales team as required in developing and delivering revenue opportunities across all of GBS’ distribution channels.
  • Mentor the production team to diversify and develop their skill sets both in terms of technical skills as well as editorial.
  • Working with the Head of Production, ensure all productions come in on the agreed budgets.
  • This is an on-location job. The EP will be expected to be in the office near Oxford Circus at least 4 days a week unless on shoots in the UK or internationally.

 

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Demonstrable experience of working in digital video production and editorial storytelling being able to point towards developing and delivering amazing creative content in previous jobs.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end, multi-platform video production with considerable hands-on experience.
  • Extensive experience in producing content for YouTube.
  • A deep understanding of and appreciation for TikTok and Instagram as video and social platforms.
  • Previous experience in managing production teams with a track record of developing talent as well as being able to motivate and create an environment of positive engagement.
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal skills.
  • A willingness to work in a collaborative manner with the flexibility to deal with the ever-changing parameters of social platforms and an entrepreneurial organisation built upon those platforms.
  • Previous experience as a content lead is appreciated.
